Coaches Note 05-04-10
It’s Swim-a-thon Week! Make sure you are out working hard—here are the details for Friday and what else is coming up:
Swim-a-thon: Hawaiian Daze
Friday, May 7 we will be completing the swimming portion of our 2010 Swim-a-thon. Here is the schedule for Friday night:
Seniors and Regionals—5:00 PM
Age Group—6:00 PM
Ripples—5:30 PM (Warm-up pool)
Please continue to work hard to get donations and pledges. Again, this is our only fundraiser of the year, and we’d like to make sure that it remains our only fundraiser of the year.
As of today, we only have about 50% of the team signed up to participate. Please follow the link on the left and sign up—we will have pizza on Friday, and need to know how many swimmers will be showing up. There will be prizes for those who raise the most money, as well as for participating in the event.
Thanks for all of your hard work. For more information click here or Toni Endebrock or call her at 509-465-8098.
Neptune Invitational—May 15-16: Lewiston, ID
Lewiston is a go! Please sign up before midnight tonight!!! The meet information is also available to view on the sign up page. Again, here is the plan for the weekend:
NO PRACTICE FRIDAY NIGHT, either in Spokane or down in Lewiston.
The local college is having graduation on Friday night, so hotels are at a premium. I was unable to secure a hotel block, so, unfortunately, you’ll have to be on your own.
We will do a team warm-down/practice after the meet on Saturday evening. We will then do a team dinner at Fazzari’s Pizza in Clarkston, WA.
Spokane Waves Aquatic Team “BIG SPLASH” Annual Awards Banquet—Tuesday, May 25
Save the date for our annual awards banquet. Click here for all of the information; don’t miss this awesome event. There will be prizes….
Long Course Developmental Meet—Friday, May 21: Witter Pool
Spokane Area Swimming has graciously invited us to attend a Long Course Developmental Meet down at Witter Pool on Friday, May 21. Signups will be available later this week, once we get the entry files from SAS. This will be a rain or shine, warm or cold event, so be prepared for spring weather in Spokane!
Swimmers of the Month—April
Seniors: Mitchell Beck—Mitchell has had impeccable attendance for the past month. He has even begun to attend morning practice sessions, where he has added weight training to his workout routine. On top of his great attendance, his performance on Sunday at the Triple Pentathlon meet was outstanding. He swam four personal best times, breaking two new team records. He also contributed to a relay team record. Mitchell has also decided to swim on Whitworth’s Varsity Swim Team next fall; great work Mitchell, and good luck at Whitworth!
Regionals: Nick Peterson—Nick had a great month, with solid practices and a good Triple Pentathlon meet. Nick continues to be an incredibly hard worker, but more importantly, he is beginning to understand that real improvement comes from working on his stroke technique. At the Triple Pentathlon meet, he dropped time in five of his nine swims. Keep up the great work, Nick!
Age Group: Blake Howell—Blake had an outstanding Triple Pentathlon meet, dropping time in almost every event that he swam and swimming two events for the first time ever. More importantly, he has stepped up his effort practices and has begun to establish himself as a leader within the Age Group. On a personal level, this month has been full of adversity, yet he has continued to be a model member of the team and shows up with a smile on his face. Congratulations, Blake!
Ripples: Lexi Weller—Lexi has been doing fantastic in practice. She has been a hard worker and a good listener. This has helped her to improve her technique and allowed her to swim well at the Triple Pentathlon. Despite the fact that it was only her first meet, she had impressive swims in both the 50 free and the 50 back. Way to go, Lexi!
We’ll see you at the pool—we’ll see all of you on FRIDAY, MAY 7 for the Swim-a-thon!
