Coaches Note 05-25-10

It’s banquet day!  Tonight, starting at 6:00, is our annual Big Splash Awards Banquet on the campus of Gonzaga University.  If you didn’t sign up, don’t worry—just show up at the door with money in hand (swimmers are free) and we’ll get you in.  For all the details, click here; we’ll see you tonight!

Remember, due to the banquet, there is NO PRACTICE TONIGHT!

Here’s what’s going on:

Swim-A-Thon

A huge thank you to everyone who has already raised money for our Swim-A-Thon; while yesterday was the last day to turn your money in and be eligible for prizes, you can still raise money and turn it in.  So far, less than 50% of our swimmers have turned in their money, so please get that in ASAP.  Most of the money will go to cover the costs of our pool rent, which has gone up significantly in the past few years (example: Witter went from $17 per day to $42 per day).  Our goal was to have each swimmer raise their monthly rate in dues, and we’ve had several swimmers meet or exceed that goal.  Thank you to those who have participated, and please get your money in if you haven’t already!

Long Course Developmental Meet Recap

25 brave swimmers showed up to Comstock Pool on the South Hill for a Developmental Meet with SAS last Thursday night.  Despite the frigid temperatures (you could see your breath!), we had 2 team records and 39 best times achieved!  Congratulations to Rachel Deobald (8&U Girls 100 Breast) and Tommy Madill (8&U Boys 100 Back) for breaking team records!  Great job Waves!

Tri-Cities Invitational: June 4-6—Pasco Memorial Pool, Pasco, Washington

Entries for the Tri-Cities Invitational are due TODAY before midnight.  Please get your entries in ASAP.

Summer Solstice Swim Meet: June 18-20—Witter Pool, Spokane, Washington

Entries for the Summer Solstice Meet are due next Tuesday before midnight.  Please get your entries in ASAP.  Since this meet is in Spokane, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND every Waves swimmer participate.

Developmental Meet: June 26—Whitworth University Aquatic Center

We will host a Developmental Meet, similar in format to the meets we had in the fall, on Saturday morning, June 26. Please mark your calendars; click here for more details.

New USA Swimming Website

If you haven’t heard, USA Swimming completely reworked their website, and it’s pretty stinking cool.  If you have some free time, please check it out—it has some incredible information for swimmers, parents, officials, and volunteers.  It is a great resource for all of our members, so please check it out.

That’s it; we’ll see you tonight at the Big Splash Awards Banquet!
