Coaches Note 06-15-10
We have an exciting weekend ahead—all of our swimmers will be out of school (the Mead kids say ‘FINALLY!’), and on top of that we have the Summer Solstice Meet hosted by our friends, SAS. Here is a link to all of the info you need: timeline, psych sheet, meet info.
Here’s what else is happening in Waves-land:
Swim-a-thon
We wanted to include this note because we’ve gotten so much positive feedback from other parents about this year’s Swim-a-thon. Please join us in giving a huge thank you to Toni Endebrock for helping to make this year’s Swim-a-thon our most successful to date. Everything was great—from the preparation, to the swim day, to the awards party—it was an awesome experience. The Waves Board and the coaching staff are deeply appreciative of your efforts. Of course, we can’t forget Toni’s faithful and hardworking sidekick, Andrea Christie, who was there every step of the way and helped Toni keep her sanity! A huge thank you to both of you for a job well done!!!
Toni and Andrea have done this for a few years now, and are looking to groom some replacements; if you or anyone you know, might be interested, please contact Toni, who would love to help you get started.
Parent Education
We wanted to follow up on last week’s friendly reminder. Thanks so much all of you who took the time to talk or email the coaches on this topic—we’ve had some great conversations. Our goal was simply to help us all understand the balance that is needed to ensure that our swimmers are successful. We know that Parent Education is always difficult, with so many people (including the coaches) being incredibly busy. Again, if you have time, please check out the USA Swimming link and the Waves Parent Education Tab for some great advice on how to be a successful swim parent. Thanks!
Developmental Meet--June 26, 2010: Whitworth Aquatic Center
We will host another Developmental meet, this time partnering with SAS, on Saturday morning, June 26. This is a fantastic opportunity for our newer and younger swimmers, especially those who are nervous about competing in a long course pool. Mark your calendars--sign up is available through the website. Entries are due in next Tuesday, June 22.
Snake River Challenge—July 3, 2010: Lewiston, ID
If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do over 4th of July weekend, you might want to check out the Snake River Challenge. It’s an open water competition that is open to all ages and abilities. The best part is, you get to swim WITH the current of the river, not against it! Click here for more info, including how to register.
Starlight Invitational--July 9-11, 2010: Wenatchee, WA
Entries for the Starlight Invitational are due next Tuesday evening, June 22. Please get your entries in ASAP.
Summer Practice Schedule
Our modified summer practice schedule begins next Monday, June 21. Again, nothing will change in the afternoons—we will simply add a morning practice at Witter Pool. The complete summer practice schedule can be found here. Contact Kevin or Keddy for any questions or concerns.
Hope you all have a great week. We’ll see you in the pool!
Kevin & Keddy
