Welcome Cheney Families!

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself as this year’s SWAT Board President.  I look forward to continuing to improve and develop our team in conjunction with the coaches, board members and families.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns, questions or just want to talk.  I have three children on the team (8, 11, 17) so have just about every age group covered.

During the summer the board and coaches have been busy getting ready for another swim season and looking for ways to make the WAVES a better team.  Over the last few months the EWRA Swim Team, ("Cheney Hurricanes"), found themselves without a coach and without the financial means to hire a qualified replacement.  Their parent-run board approached the Spokane Waves parent-run board with the idea of being absorbed by our team.

After many discussions between the two boards, it has been determined that SWAT will expand into Cheney and formally absorb the EWRA Swim Team.  This is an incredible opportunity for us and will allow those swimmers and families to continue to participate in this activity we all love.

We understand that this is a major decision that has been made in a short amount of time and there are still some details to be worked out – but we all wanted to capitalize on this opportunity and move this forward with the start of the new swim season.  Expanding into Cheney will allow our team to concurrently utilize two University pools in the region – something that very few teams have access to.  Our goal of course is to continue to provide the best experience for all of our swimmers and families.

To more fully explain the implications of this exciting new chapter for our team, we would like to formally invite every current and active member of the Spokane Waves Aquatic Team to the board meeting on Tuesday, September 7 beginning at 6:00 PM.  Board meetings are always open to the entire membership but I wanted to make a formal announcement about this topic so if there are any specific questions, concerns or discussions we can tackle them early.  If you cannot attend but have a question please send me a note.  You can expect more details as they unfold from myself and Coach Kevin Wang.

The meeting will be held at Whitworth University in the basement classroom of Westminster Hall, located immediately east of the aquatic center.
