Masters Nationals Recap
Two Spokane Waves Masters Swimmers, Harm Jan Steenhuis and Dan Sheahan, headed down to Mesa, Arizona this past weekend for the United States Masters National Championships. Over 1800 swimmers participated in the meet in various age groups. There were many former Olympians participating in the event, such as former Olympic Gold Medalist and World Record holder Ed Moses, who set three US National Records for the 30-34 Age Group.
On Thursday,the pair tried to adjust to the 95+ degree weather and got read for the full weekend of racing.
On Friday, Harm-Jan swam the 100 Breast, achieving a personal best time and finishing 25th in his age group. Dan then joined Harm-Jan in the highly competitive 50 free, with Dan finishing in 43rd place and Harm-Jan finishing in 61st. Both swam personal bests.
Saturday, it was Harm-Jan leading off again with the 50 Breast, where he just missed a personal best and finished 25th. Dan swam the 200 free, dropping 5 seconds and moving up to 30th.
Sunday Dan wrapped up the weekend with the 100 free achieving another personal best time and finishing in 61st place.
Both represented our Master Team well, swimming a combined 5 personal best times out of the 6 total races. Great work guys! You are amazing!!!
