Tri-City Invitational Recap

The racing at this year's Tri-City Invitational in Pasco, Washington was just like the weather: nice and hot!

The Waves sent 24 swimmers to the meet, competing  against teams from Inland Empire Swimming, as well as a few Oregon and Seattle teams.

Whitworth University swimmer Rory Buck, who coaches and competes with the Waves in the summer months, set the tone by winning the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, the latter in meet record time.  He also swam strongly in the 50 freestyle, finishing 1st as well.  Rory is also a member of the South African National Team, and is preparing for the World University Games this August in China.

Rachel Millet, who will competing at the University of Idaho this fall, swam strongly, taking first place in the 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly.  Additionally, she placed second in the 100 breast and third in the 200 breast and 400 IM.

Fellow graduating seniors Carlie and Taylor McGregor, who will swim for New Mexico this fall, swam  well.  Carlie brought home a solid third place in the 200 IM, while Taylor's 800 free finished fourth.

High school swimmers Kaylee Beck, Nate Endebrock,  Conner Hickey, and Jacob White each had time drops in some key events; all 4 are hoping to qualify for Senior Sectionals this July.   Kaylee took the biggest step, breaking the team record in the 200 fly and missing her qualifying time by less than 1 second.  She also had a strong 200 and 800 free. Nate broke the 200 freestyle and 800 freestyle team records, and improving several best times.  Conner swam strong in the 100 fly and competed well in the 200 and 400 IM.  Jacob swam well in the 100 and 200 back, and had a strong 200 freestyle as well.

Our  13-14 year old swimmers were led by Ashley Christoff's eighth place finish in the 50 free and Mandi Edlin's 10th place finish in the 200 back.  Ashley Berg, Eric Foote, Robby Jones, and Erica Salzl added several top 25 finishes in this very competitive age group.

Our 12 & under squad was led by Isabelle Nachtsheim's strong swims in the 50 and 100 back (fourth place in both), 50 free (fifth) and 50 fly (sixth).  Abi Millet and Selene Moore swam several best times as well, including solid 50 fly times.

9 year old's Racheal Deobald and Jackie Gray swam best times in nearly every event, and made several IES Long Course Championship Qualifying Times.  Rachael finished eighth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200, while Jackie finished 13th and 18th in the same two events.  Josh Millet swam well, finishing 18th in the 100 breaststroke.  Cheney swimmer Logan Krantz competed in her first ever 50 meter meet, swimming the 50 free and 50 backstroke.

Our youngest swimmers, 6 year old Jordan Gray and 7 year old Sam Deobald, enjoyed their first ever long course meet, swimming the 50 free and 50 back.  Both had a great time, and can't wait for the next meet!

A fun and fast weekend was had by all, as we continue through our long course season.  The Waves will be back in action during Father's Day weekend at Witter Pool in Spokane for the annual Summer Solstice Meet.
