Senior Sectional Updates

Day 1:

It's been an interesting trip so far. Our wonderful friends at Enterprise gave us a great deal on a van and sent us on our way. However, the van started to shake above 60 miles an hour, so we called them up, and they set up a trade out vehicle in the Tri-Cities. After a quick and painless transition from one van to the next, we got to the hotel. We managed to get the two girls room adjoining, so they can have two temperatures for sleeping. One, a sauna room, the other... something closer to the frigid wastelands of Antartica. After settling in, we headed out to the pool for our first night of racing. We had 2 relays, and Madi Lydig in the 800M Freestyle.

Needless to say, our first night was amazing. We had 5 official times (2 relay lead-off's, 2 relay times, and 1 individual race.) 4 of those times were team records, and all 5 were best times! Great work to everyone who trained and prepared for so long to start the meet off so well! I'm proud of you SWAT!

Day 2:

Second day of the meet, and the first full day of competition started out very very well. In the morning we had 5 individual records, 2 Relay records, and 3 new individual Sr. Sectional qualifying times. Rachel Millet, Madi Lydig, and Rory Buck all made it into finals in the 100M Free, 200M Back, and 200M Breast respectively. Our Men’s and Women’s relay team both dropped 5 seconds, moved up a few dozen places and set new team records. After those, we sent the finalists back to the hotel to rest, we had 4 time trials all of which were best times by large margins, 3 of which were new team records, and 2 were qualifying times for Sr. Sectionals. After going back to the hotel to rest, we can back to finals to cheer on our swimmers. Rachel millet had the fastest reaction time of the night, .70 off the blocks, but wasn’t quite able to defend the top place in the consolation final. Rory came up next in the 200 Breast. He won and set the record last year fully shaved and tapered. This year he is still in the middle of hard training with his sights set on the World University games in August. He swam his 3 best ever time, and fastest by far of all his un-rested races. Madi capped the night off with another strong drop in the 200 Back, breaking the team record she set this morning and touching just shy of the Jr. National time standard. With a great day of racing, and everyone being a part of a new team record, we went out to the Olive garden for a great meal and conversation to match our wonderful day of racing. Great work SWAT, keep up the awesome racing!

Day 3:

We woke up on the shortest day of the meet ready to go.  Rachel Millet, Madi Lydig, and Carlie McGregor all had individual races to kick things off, then we followed up with an 800 Free relay for the girls.  Rachel had a great morning swim, just a little off her best and placed in C finals.  Madi dropped a second in the 200M Free, and Carlie dropped almost 3 seconds, setting a new SWAT record in the 400IM.  Those three girls were joined by Taylor McGregor for the 800 Relay.  Taylor who’s having an amazing meet led it off with a blistering 2:09, dropping nearly 5 seconds, and getting a new Sr. Sectional time standard.  The other three girls extended on the lead Taylor go them, beating the field by almost 25 meters.  The shattered the old record, getting everyone excited for the Time Trial session.  A few hours later, we time trialed a few events, all except one were best times, 2 being new team records. (Conner Hickey in the 100M Fly, Carlie McGregor in the 100 Breast.)  Rachel swam in the C final that night in the 200M free, adding a few seconds from the morning.  Overall, a great day, nice work everyone!

Day 4:

The fourth day of the meet had the most individual swims.  All the 100’s of strokes, and the 400 Free.  It was filled with great races, best times and was capped with Rory crushing the field in the B Final of the 100 Breast.  Rachel Millet was also in the C final of the 100 Fly, setting a new team record in the morning swims.  During time trials, Nate Endebrock set the team record in the 400M Free, dropping about 5 seconds.  Faith Barr broke the 100M Breast record, only to see it re-broken by Carlie McGregor later.

Day 5:

The final day of the meet had the splash and dash.  Rachel Millet led off the day with a blazing 50M Free, dropping a little bit of time, setting a new team record, and placing 9th.  Before our kids rocked the mile, Madi Lydig, Carlie McGregor, Rachel Millet, and Taylor McGregor combined to destroy the field in the 400M Medley Relay and set a new team record by over 6 seconds.  Taylor McGregor and Kaylee Beck both had the largest drops of the meet, by 52 and 25 seconds respectively in the 1500M Free.  Taylor’s mile was a new team record by almost 10 seconds.  Fantastic meet guys!  We had over 90% best times, 31 new team records, and a really positive experience.  Great work guys, and thanks for keeping me away as we drove home!
