Winter Invite Recap

The Waves took 24 swimmers over to Ellensburg to compete in the regional winter invitational.  From those 24 kids, we got 67 best times, 9 team records, 9 new Age Group Sectional times, 1 new Western Zone time, and a whole host of Inland Empire Championship times.  It was a great tune up for the championship meets coming next month.  We are very excited to see what we can do in the next month!

Just a brief explanation of those standards: the Age Group Sectional times are the equivalent of the top 40 per age in a particular event.  If you qualify in the 11 year old girls times, you are among the top 40 in the western region (Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Nevada, Alaska, Wyoming, and Northern California.)  That’s pretty elite.  Great work Waves.

Zones is a similar type meet.  However, you add in a few more regions to those in the Western Section.  New Mexico, Arizona, and all of California are added.  If you make a Zones Qualification, it puts you in the top 40 for the entire Western Zone.

Inland Empire Championships is host to the top 300 swimmers in the Inland Empire (Washington West of the cascades, Northern Idaho, and Eastern Oregon.)  With 1500 swimmers in the Inland Empire, making a Championship qualifying time is a pretty big deal.
