Shamrock Recap
134 swimmers, representing nearly 2/3 of our entire team, participated in our annual Shamrock Shake Up Invitational at Whitworth this past weekend. It was a fantastic meet, with lots of fast swims and loud cheers.
12 & under swimmers represented nearly 71% of all swims this past weekend, with several competing in new events for the first time ever. Nearly 60% of all 12 & under swims were lifetime best performances—a pretty cool number considering we had many DQ’s in breaststroke, butterfly, and IM. While we’re still working on refining some technique, the coaches were very, very impressed by all of our swimmers who completed an event for the first time—GREAT work!
There are simply too many best times and first time swims to list here, so we’ll make sure that those swimmers are properly acknowledged during practice.
Four Team Records were broken this past weekend. Makenzie Norman broke the 100 IM record, improving her Age Group Sectional qualifying time. Jared Geschke broke his own record in the 9-10 boys 200 breaststroke by 15 seconds. Tommy Madill broke two 9-10 boys records which were older than he was—the 50 fly and 100 IM records he broke had stood for over 12 years!
Our 13 & older swimmers raced well, especially considering they’re coming off the intensity and focus of two championship meets in the past month. Swimmers who are attending Age Group Sectionals at the end of the month raced hard, while those not attending AGS averaged close to 60% best times.
Robby Jones and Dani Sherven each achieved two Age Group Sectional Qualifying times in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
All in all, it was a great weekend, with lots of learning, strong racing, and tons of fun! A special thank you to all of our wonderful parents, who worked very, very hard this past weekend to make the meet a huge success! THANK YOU!
