Spokane Fitnesss Announcement

Waves Begin Partnership with Spokane Fitness

The Waves are pleased to announce an agreement with Spokane Fitness that will add another practice facility for Age Group, Ripple, and Recreation swimmers.  The partnership will also allow for morning swimming and weightlifting sessions for our Senior group.

Additionally, any Waves family members that wish to join Spokane Fitness will be offered the corporate rate, opening the door for parents and other family members to work out while their swimmers practice.

The new agreement begins officially on Monday, October 1.

"We are excited," said Head Coach Kevin Wang.  "Initially, we were seeking more opportunities for our Senior swimmers, but the discussions went so well, we begin to explore options for our Age Group, Ripple, and Recreation programs as well."

"It's a fantastic opportunity," echoed Head Age Group Coach Kevin Eddy.  "Swimming is an incredible sport, and we have built an amazing team.  This allows both to continue to thrive and flourish in the coming years."

Senior swimmers will practice in the mornings from 5:30-7:00 am, using both the 4 lane, 25 yard lap pool and the excellent fitness center, which include a great selection of weights and weight lifting machines.

In the afternoons, the Spokane Fitness has agreed to allow the Waves exclusive access to the pool from 4:00-6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

"Exclusive pool use will allow us to maximize the facility much like what we've done at Whitworth and EWU," said Coach Wang.  "It's a smaller pool, so we don't imagine having a huge crowd over there, but at the same time, it's big enough that we can do some big things.  This is just another opportunity to grow the sport of swimming in Spokane and to build the foundation of our team."

Initial plans call for the Age Group to practice from 4:30-6:00 pm, a Ripples group to practice from 5:00-5:45 pm, and a Recreation group to practice from 4:30-5:00 pm.

In terms of coaching, the Waves hope to have an announcement soon.

"Coach Rory will help get this program off the ground, and we hope to have a new site manager in position in the next 7-10 days," said Coach Wang.  "Rory will get things started, bringing professionalism and leadership to that position and will set a great tone.  The new site manager will bring some great experience to the team, and will keep that ball rolling."

Parents are highly encouraged to take advantage of the corporate rate that Spokane Fitness is offering.

"Even if your swimmer practices at Whitworth, Spokane Fitness is close enough to get a solid workout in while practice is going on," said Coach Keddy. "As a parent, I know that time management is key.  Spokane Fitness is opening the door for our parents to set a great example and take ownership of their personal fitness while their children are learning how to swim, compete, and take great care of themselves as well.  It's a win-win for everyone--parents and swimmers, the Waves and Spokane Fitness--you name it!  We're excited."

New swimmer tryouts will be held at Whitworth on Monday, October 1.  Most of those new swimmers will be encouraged to practice at Spokane Fitness.

Any current swimmer or family that wishes to explore the option of practicing at Spokane Fitness should contact Coach Keddy to discuss that option.

Coach Keddy knows that while the new site can alleviate some crowding issues, there will be new challenges as well.  "We want the best possible experience for our athletes.  We want the strongest, most cohesive team possible.  With new opportunities come new responsibilities, but we are up to the challenge."
