Shamrock Recap

Shamrock Shook Up!

The 2013 Shamrock Shake Up is in the books, and it was one of the best performances in recent memory.

Over 150 Waves swimmers attended the meet, with 124 of our swimmers swimming at least 1 lifetime best. Additionally, we had several swimmers achieve Sectional cuts, broke 7 team records, and numerous meet records.

Sakaiya McCoy had arguably one of the most impressive swims of the meet, dropping 18 seconds in the 1650 free to achieve a Senior Sectional Time and break the team record. Sakaiya rebroke her own record that she set last weekend at IES Champs. Sakaiya, who is 14, will be highly ranked going into the Age Group Sectional meet in two weeks.

9 year old Emma Thompson achieved her first ever Age Group Sectional qualifying time in the 10 & U girls 50 butterfly. She made the time by over half a second in her time trial after narrowly missing it earlier in the day. She is also less than a second away from the team record and has nearly 15 months to break it!

Matthew Norman also achieved his first ever Age Group Sectional qualifying time in the 10 & U boys 50 butterfly. His time of 34.22 broke the team record by .02. Matthew swam his first ever 50 butterfly at Trick or Treat in October, and has made incredible improvements over this season!

Jared Geschke, who already has Sectional times in the 50 & 100 breast, swam a team record in the 11-12 boys 200 breaststroke. His time of 2:54.49 was a 7 1/2 second drop, and the 11 year old has well over a year to improve his record.

Robby Jones broke two 13-14 boys team records in the 100 IM & the 50 back, the backstroke record was one of the older ones on our board, set in 2004. Robby had 7 best times this weekend, and will also be competing at the Age Group Sectional meet.

Conner Hickey outdueled Head Coach Kevin Wang in the 100 IM to break the 15-18 boys record, previously held by current Whitworth swimmer Mitchell Beck. Conner pulled away the last 40 yards or so to knock off Kevin, swimming the event in 56.22

FInally, our 9-10 boys 200 Medley Relay record was beaten by over 4 seconds! Drew Kistler, Andrew Lambert, Matthew Norman, and Preston Egan teamed up to beat both the team and meet records. It was a fantastic swim, and impressive to see them break a record previously held by current teammates in the 11-12 age group Jacob Kimball, Jared Geschke, Tommy Madill, and Ryan Foote.

Swimmers at every level in every age group swam well. Unfortunately, there are simply too many to highlight. If you click on the link highlighted here, you'll find a summary of all swimmers who swam at least 1 lifetime best.

Parents: thank you so much for your hard work and dedication--Shamrock was a great meet for everyone involved! We hope to see you all again at Triple Pentathlon, April 19-21!
