Record Breaking Weekend for SWAT Best Times, New IES Records, Team Records, New Top 10 Swimmers
SWAT had 129 athletes competing this past weekend with 104 swimmers at Whitworth for the Winter Invite and 25 swimmers at the Vandal Invitational in Moscow, ID. Both meets were an enormous success for our team.
The December Championship Meets mark the halfway point of the 2021-2022 Short Course Season.
Competing at Prelims/Finals Meets gives our athletes much needed experience that lets coaches and athletes know if we’re on the right track and what we need to work on these next few months to get ready for the end of the season Championship Meets in March (JOs, Regionals, Sr. Zones, Sectionals).
We still have two meets left this year with Jr. Nationals beginning this Thursday in Austin, TX and the Reindeer Splash next weekend in Lewiston, ID.

Congratulations to the Senior Boys 200 Free Relay (Michael Hochwalt, Drew Kistler, Will D’Orazio and Ethan Ingalls) for breaking the IES record in the 200 Medley Relay with a t time of (1:35.46) and to Drew Kislter for Breaking the IES Record in the Open Men’s 100 Breaststroke with a time of (54.47)
Our athletes are in a great place going into the back half of the season:
Our Ripples and Wave Rider teammates are getting comfortable at competitions and are improving dramatically on the technical side of the sport, learning all four strokes, turns, training etiquette, and independence at swim meets.
Our Bronze and Silver teammates are learning how to incorporate techniques into a true training/workout schedule and are learning workout structure, interval training, race strategy and the importance of consistency in a training schedule.
Our Gold, Platinum and Senior athletes are learning about the true nature of the sport and the effort, time and commitment it takes to remain competitive at a higher level.
Our National Athletes are training hard and posting times that improve their national ranking in the US and increase their eligibility for collegiate swimming.
Swimmers are reminded to maintain their regular training schedule through the Holidays. Swimmers very easily lose their rhythm, strength, endurance and feel for the water if they miss practices over the Winter break. If families do go out of town for the Holidays, please find another team for your swimmer to train with while on vacation. Training with another team while out of town is an excellent experience for any swimmer. They get to meet new swimmers in a different area, they stay in shape, and can pick up a few things from different programs. SWAT has several guest swimmers from other teams join us every year.
Great Job Team! Congratulations on another successful weekend. We hope everyone had fun and are looking forward to Holiday Training.
