Our Continued Commitment to You
Parents & Athletes -
Last year we knew that when confronting the obstacle of COVID-19 we would also need to take head-on America’s original sin of racism. We are incredibly proud to work in one of the nation's most diverse communities. A community that unites families from all over the world to help raise the next generation of change agents. Our fledgling team was born in this very community last year and our mission and purpose have never been stronger.
The guilty verdict reached yesterday in Minneapolis was personal for many in our membership. Minneapolis, coach Ben’s hometown, has long been known for a difficult relationship between community members and law enforcement. This week we ask each of you to have an honest conversation about public safety and accountability with your athletes. We encourage you to ask your athletes how they feel about these events, to listen to them, and allow them to ask questions.
In the next week, we will continue to have conversations with athletes about accountability and the significance of this verdict. As always we will offer practice as a safe space for open and honest conversation. We will reinforce that practice is where athletes can ask the uncomfortable questions and there are no penalties for doing so. We will also talk about acts of non-violent protest. Yesterday's verdict is a turning point that exemplifies our responsibility to demand communities where people are treated equally and are held accountable for their actions.
With justice & peace we stand in solidarity. ~ The Coaching Staff
