M3 Aquatics on Guns
Hello M3A families,
It is with a heavy heart that we have observed so many instances of gun violence in the last month. The M3A staff wants to make one thing clear above all others; athlete safety is our number one priority. Guns, regardless of the kind, are inherently unsafe and are not welcome at M3A-sponsored activities or on the property of the institutions where we practice or compete.
We have been deeply upset about the surge in violence seen not only in the national media but here locally in our communities. Gun violence is all of our problems. In the last week, we have taken time during practice to review our emergency protocol and to remind athletes that the coaching staff are always doing everything possible to keep them safe. We request that you keep those affected by gun violence in your thoughts and that you join us in advocating for safe schools where our children can learn without the fear of being shot.
It is clear that our nation has endowed those unfit to wield such powerful weapons with the inalienable right to cause chaos. For the last 66 years since the University of Texas tower shooting, students in our country have had to fear active shooters and live through the hellish reality that at any point they could be involved in the next random act of violence. If we have not been able to learn, maybe we can still keep hope that action and advocacy will deliver us a nation that our young people deserve. Together at M3A, we will continue to advocate for our athlete’s safety and for their mental wellbeing.
In Solidarity, We Stand,
The Coaching Staff
