Political Non-Violence

Hello M3A families,

In a moment of national shock and spectacle, we witnessed for the first time in the digital era the attempted assassination of a former U.S. president and current candidate for the office of the president of the United States. In the strongest terms possible our coaching staff condemn all acts of political violence, gun violence, the oppression of freedom of speech and the right of the people to peacefully assemble.

As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) is set to take place in Chicago this summer, we call on all our members to remain vigilant, aware and peaceful. Our staff believe firmly in the moral obligation we share that when you see something you are responsible for saying something. The safety of our fellow citizens in a time like this is a collective burden we all hold. Together with a deep sense of patriotism and personal responsibility we must work to ensure the rights of all Americans to peacefully participate in the political process.

Additionally, we are aware that the DNC will occur while the club is on break. Many of our members will be impacted by security checkpoints and potentially significant political demonstrations. All members are welcome to utilize our club group chats as a community resource as this event goes on. The coaching staff are kindly requesting in advance that members work together to communicate and be of assistance as this event approaches.

At practice M3A athletes are regularly informed and instructed on the importance of non-violence, USA Swimming Safe Sport regulations and club policy. The coaching staff will continue to advance this message in the remaining time we have before our summer break.
