YEAR 2025

Hello! Name is Mia Wong, I am a Sophomore at Irvine High School and a Colony Swimmer of 10 years. I enjoy art because it is something that is relaxing and fun to do in my free time. I dabble in various mediums, but ink would have to be my favorite material. I love drawing cartoons, original characters, and goofy doodles. I also play club soccer as well as high school soccer, and I enjoy watching cartoons like Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall. With my logo design, I wanted to pay homage to our wonderful coaching staff with their iconic swim meet Hawaiian shirts, as well as our team's spirit in the Dynamite character. Hi My name is Rachel Khorsandi and I'm one of the coaches and swimmers for Colony! This is my third year coaching and my eighth year swimming for the team. I have always loved making cards for my friends with fun fonts and drawings, so I wanted to translate that into something for the team. I incorporated the team colors in the design and wanted to use the red elements to make the words pop and to resemble a red hot explosion. I also decided to add the bubbles to reference the "eat my bubbles" drawings everyone writes on their backs during meets! I think the design has fun, bubbly fonts and elements that reflect the team.
When I'm not swimming, I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping, read, draw, watch Grey's Anatomy, and listen to music (Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams). I also like to go on runs and get matcha at cute cafes around the city! Next year I'll be a senior at Irvine High, where I play water polo as well as swim. I'm looking forward to this summer on Colony and I can't wait to meet the new swimmers and see the familiar faces.

YEAR 2024

Hello! I’m Lauren Gee, a 9th grade visual arts student, at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA). I enjoy visual arts because it is fun, creative, and expressive. My favorite art medium is pencil because it is versatile and easy, yet complex. I usually like to draw happy and cute cartoon animals, but I occasionally draw anime. Other than art, I also like to play the piano and ride my bike.

While designing this logo, I thought of ways to make it look similar to the old Colony Red Hots logo, but with a more modern twist. I had the idea of a simple cartoon of a figure swimming, and I integrated it with the red, white, and blue color scheme. The biggest challenge I faced while designing this logo was making it easily adaptable because I knew the logo would be used on websites and merchandise. I imagined a logo that could be used on many different things without having to have more than one version of it. As I was brainstorming, I knew I wanted something that would scream, “This is an energetic, and powerful swimming team,” while still being easy to see. And finally after a lot of trial and error with composition, font, and concepts for the figure, I came up with what is now the current logo for the Colony Red Hots.
