KYA Group Descriptions

High Performance- Ages 15 and Over

Swimmers in this group compete in the highest national level meet they qualify for (Nationals, Juniors, Futures, Sectionals etc) This high intensity/high reward group requires the greatest level of attendance, commitment and goal setting. Additionally, swimmers will be working toward USA Scholastic All-American status and being prepared for college recruitment/commitment.

Senior Elite- Ages 15 and Over.

Swimming in this group will provide student-athletes the chance to work hand in hand with a focus on being successful at the LSC championship meets as well as the Kentucky High School championship series. Swimmers are learning goal-setting, individualized technique and taking ownership of their progression as an athlete and in the classroom.

Senior Prep- Ages 13-14 (12 year old swimmers placed at coaches discretion)

Swimmers are being introduced to concepts that will benefit them as Senior aged swimmers including taking ownership of their progression, goal setting and in-depth pacing, training cycles and nutrition/mental training. Swimmers will compete at the highest level of meet they qualify for (Sectionals, Futures, LSC championship meets, etc). This group requires a high level of commitment and personal ownership.

Blue- Ages 11-12 (10 yr old swimmers placed at coaches discretion)

Blue group swimmers are building on the fundamental skills learned in White group. Further emphasis is placed on stroke technique, interval training and pacing and aerobic development. Group goals include consistent practice and meet attendance, contributing positively to the culture of our team and the community and achieving USA Swimming A Times.

White- Ages 10 and Under (required to have prior knowledge of side-breathing freestyle and backstroke)

This is a competitive group that teaches intervals, challenging sets, drills and skills for all four strokes, and racing strategies. We emphasize stroke technique, teamwork, basic training etiquette and behaviour. White group swimmers compete primarily in local LSC meets and some travel and championship meets with qualifying times.

*Group moves take place three times in a calendar year - in September ( beginning of short course season), December ( after the mid-season champ meet) and in March ( beginning long course season). Group moves are based on the swimmers age at the next championship meet for their group.  The September move will be determined by their age at the mid-season champs meet. Any December moves will be based on their age as of the Spring champs meet. March moves will be based on their age as of the Summer champs meet.
