Frequently Asked Questions
2025-26 Season
General Questions
Do I have to be a Westtown Student to swim on Westtown Aquatics? Nope! We are open to all swimmers in the area!
What is the time commitment for the program? Depending on what level your athlete is in; practices range from 2 to 6 per week. For more information, see the Practice Groups page. As a team, we attend one meet per month. We expect all swimmers to attend these meets. We practice weekly, so we can be ready to compete with the team. The months of December and March have qualifying, or championship, meets that we hope all swimmers will attend.
When does the season start? Our Short Course season starts in early September!
When does the season end? This depends on your swimmer's level and what championship meet(s) they will attend in March. Whether or not you swimmer has a championship meet, your commitment is through March.
Group Placement & Changes
What group will my swimmer(s) be in? Every new swimmer must go through a evaluation by a member of our coaching staff. Tryout slots for the upcoming short course season will be announced the summer before it begins!
How do I know how my swimmer is doing? Ask! You can find contact information for both Head Coach JJ Rudisill and your childrens' coaches on the Coaching Staff page. Drop into a practice and watch. You'll get to see what our coaches are doing with the swimmers, how your swimmer is in a group setting and what they're working on! Meets are a window into where they are at and what they need to work out but don't gauge everything based on a meet! They could look great at practice but look completely different at meets and vice versa.
Swim Meets
What is a team effort meet? This is a meet that the entire team attends and we send all of our coaches that are available. This is typically a meet that allows all swimmers to compete and the goal is to get qualifying times for championship meets or to just get times in general. Those meets are referred to as ABBC meets and we expect everyone to participate in team effort meets. Not participating in these meets does not build the team culture that we are looking for, therefore it could forfeit your athlete(s) spot on the team.
How often are meets? During non-championship months (Oct, Nov, January & February) we will compete in one ABBC meet. Championship meets are typically held in December and March. These meet you meet pre-qualify for while attending the ABBC meets.
How far do I need to travel for meets? Most of the ABBC meets are local unless that meet fills out. In that case we may attend a meet that is 45-60 min away.
What should my swimmer bring to a meet? Two Westtown caps (we provide swimmers with caps as a part of their registration fees), two goggles, one Westtown suit and two towels (they'll be in and out of the pool a few times). If the swimmer has Westtown Aquatic Club gear, they should wear that to meets.
Do we have home meets? Yes! We aim to host two meets per season - a smaller meet in October, followed by a larger meet later in the season. These meets are not only great for swimmers to be able to race in their 'home pool,' they also rely on the support of our WA parents and are a great way to see your kid race up close!
Billing & Payments
How does billing work? Your registration fees are due when you sign up on the teamunify site and that can be paid using check or CC (with a transaction fee). 75 % of the training fees are due on the 1st of September and the remaining 25 % of the training fees will be billed on the 1st of November. A valid CC or checking account must be in the system when you register.
What if I have a question about my account? Feel free to reach out to Head Coach, JJ Rudisill.
