Position Title: Head Coach

Club: Wissahickon Community Aquatics Club (WCAC)

Location: Ambler, PA

Reports To: Board of Directors

The Wissahickon Community Aquatics Club (WCAC) is a community based year-round swim program. We offer a USA Swimming (Mid-Atlantic Region) competitive team and Suburban Aquatics League (SAL) team with skilled coaching. Coaches provide technique instruction for all ages and abilities. SAL runs from October-January, while the USA season starts in September, all culminating with Championship meets at the end of March. WCAC is a non-profit program run by a volunteer Board of Directors. WCAC is seeking a qualified Head Coach who will lead our USA and SAL swimming programs. We currently have approximately 150 swimmers and our athletes range in age from 5-18 years old. Training is held at the Wissahickon High School Natatorium, a recently constructed pool that is one of the finest in the Philadelphia area. 

The ideal candidate is energetic, knowledgeable, able to communicate respectfully with assistant coaches and parents, and above all, be willing to bring a strong leadership role to the club. The Head Coach oversees all aspects of our competitive swim program including directing coaching responsibilities. The overall objective of the position is to continue to guide and grow our swimming programs to produce the highest attainable levels of competitive excellence in individual and team performance. It is expected that the Head Coach will lead the team by fostering positive relationships, providing mentorship, and communicating well with their coaching staff.

Head Coach Roles and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all levels of swimming in the USA and SAL programs.

• Oversee seasonal progression of athletes, set goals with swimmers and monitor phases of development with individual swimmers

• Serve as deck coach for higher level swimmers

• Set training schedules, practice groups, training plans and athlete placement within groups; to include facilitating individual age appropriate goal setting process with all swimmers

• Plan each season’s USA meet schedule consistent with the needs of the team, individual training groups, athletes and their families

• Develop and assign the schedule for assistant coaches

• Oversee all individual and relay events for athletes at swim meets or review those selected by assistant coaching staff and parents

• Manage meet entries: Work with coaching and administrative staff to produce meet lineups for dual meets, submit entries for SAL Invitationals, determine swimmers and entries for championship meets, and submit entries for USA meets

• Establish an environment that fosters positive team attitudes, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship and responsibility

• Work with the school district and other WCAC program heads to manage and maximize pool time for all programming.  

• Support and facilitate progress toward USA Swimming Club Recognition and Club Excellence Goals

• Train and instruct one or multiple practice groups Monday-Friday; work and attend weekend swim meets for USA and SAL

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3+ years of passionate coaching experience 

• License: Must have (or obtain prior to being on deck) certification in Adult and Pediatric/Child CPR and AED, Lifeguarding, USA-S swim coach

• Experience leading large groups of athletes and families

• Successful at progressing swimmers at all levels

• Knowledgeable in competitive USA swimming

• Must possess/be able to demonstrate:

  • Professionalism

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Decision making ability (in the interest of athletes and organization)

  • Timely and professional communication (written and verbal) with coaches, parents, and swimmers.

  • Familiarity with Team Unify, Hy-Tek Team Manager and Meet Manager, Google Suite  and social media platforms. Willingness to learn and maintain Colorado Timing System. 

Board of Directors:

• Willing to follow directives from Board of Directors and report swim team performance

• Ability to work with and maintain professional relationships with Wissahickon High School staff and swim coaches, USA Mid-Atlantic coaches, officials and representatives, SAL coaches, officials and representatives.

Compensation:

$40,000-$45,000 (plus additional incentive pay with demonstrated program development)
