Administrative Jobs (10% of all Volunteer Opportunities)

Group Parent: Acts as point of contact between parents and the team. Maintains group roster, answers parent questions, plans and coordinates group parties and events, manages group social funds, coordinates holiday and end-of-year gifts for coaches. 

 

Parent Board: Manages the business and affairs of the Columbia Aquatics Association. The Board consists of the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Administrative Chair, Finance Chair, Treasurer, Communications Chair, At-Large Chair, Fundraising Chair, Social Chair, Volunteer Chair and Concession Chair. For more information on the duties of each chair, see the CAA by-laws. Board members are elected and serve two-year terms; the Chair serves a three-year term. 

 

Safety Director: Responsible for recruiting safety marshals to work at team events and meets. Works with coaches on any safety issues that arise during practices or meets. Works with Maryland Swimming Safety Chair to ensure the application of any new or updated USA Swimming Safety regulations. Reports any safety occurrences to USA Swimming from team activities or meets. 

 

Award Distribution: Picks up ribbons at the Aquatics Office, places labels on Best Time ribbons, separates ribbons and distributes to the family folders at the Swim Center. Updates family folders as needed. 

 

Volunteer Coordinator/Tracker: Assists the Team Administrator in monitoring the volunteer signup for each meet and event. Communicates with Communications Chair to send out emails and/or notices of volunteer opportunities. Tracks completed volunteer credits to ensure families are fulfilling the volunteer requirement. 

 

CAAC member: Represents CAA at meetings of the Columbia Aquatics Advisory Committee (CAAC) and submits a brief written report of each meeting to the CAA Parent Board. CAAC is a subcommittee of the Sports & Fitness Advisory Committee and is charged with providing input to the Columbia Association on policies, programs, and operation of CA's indoor and outdoor pools. Members of CAAC also serve as liaisons between CA members and CA management. 

 

Special projects: On occasion, the Parent Board or Team Staff need a volunteer to complete a special project (e.g., research tax laws or provide accounting expertise). These positions, while rare, are typically recruited for and assigned on a necessary basis as they require specialized skills or knowledge.
