Swim Meet Job Descriptions (85% of all Volunteer Opportunities)
Concessions: Prepare, sell, and restock concessions. Keep area clean and presentable. Assist the Concessions Manager with other tasks as necessary. There are various positions available to assist with concessions.
Heat Winner: Distributes heat winner award to first place finisher of each heat.
Meet Results: Get results printouts from Computer operators and posts results in the designated locations. Delivers printed ribbon labels to ribbons table.
Ribbons: Separate ribbons, apply printed labels, and sort by team in folders.
Safety Marshall*: Enforces warm-up/safety procedures and maintains order in the swimming venue. Requires approval of Meet Director. Must stay on deck and undistracted by phones, books, etc. while completing the position.
Session Manager: Organize and check in the volunteers, hand out volunteer badges, check out volunteers and collect volunteer badges. Other duties may be assigned by the Meet director.
Set up/Clean up: Responsible for setting up and/or breaking down all equipment required to run the meet.
Timers: Ensure swimmers compete in the correct event, heat, and lane. Operates timing devices (watches and semi- automatic timing systems - buttons) and records the time for the swimmer in the assigned lane.
Line up aide: This position is great for teachers, nurses, doctors, air traffic controllers, anyone who is not afraid to be loud and assertive. You will aid the swimmers in lining up properly and will often oversee multiple lanes and heats at once. You may not be on your phone during this position.
