Interested in Joining the Red Wing Swim Club?

We’re excited to invite new members to our team! Here’s how you can become part of the Red Wing Swim Club:

Step 1: Schedule an Evaluation
To arrange a new swimmer evaluation, please email Coach Tim at [email protected]. During this evaluation, your swimmer will be assessed to determine their skill level, and you will receive important information about RWSC. When emailing, please include the following details:

  • Parent’s name, email address, and contact phone number
  • Swimmer’s first and last name, age, and date of birth
  • A brief description of your swimmer’s previous swimming experience (e.g., lessons, stroke school, summer league, none)

At RWSC, we are dedicated to nurturing athletes to their fullest potential through positive coaching and a supportive team environment. Swimmers should be comfortable in the water and able to swim 25 yards (1 length) using Freestyle (Front Crawl) and Backstroke (Back Crawl).

If your swimmer does not yet meet this standard, we recommend enrolling them in our Wingers Swim School. Registration for lessons is available through the Red Wing Community Education portal: Red Wing Community Education

Please note: Lesson times and dates vary by session. For more information about the Swim School, feel free to contact Coach Tim. Registration and payment are processed through Community Ed, with classes taught by RWSC members.

Not sure if you want to commit to a full season of swimming?

Consider a two-week FREE trial anytime during our first 4 weeks of the season.

Our team’s no-charge, no-obligation, two-week trial will allow your swimmer to experience competitive swimming firsthand. During the trial period, swimmers will focus on competitive swimming skills including stroke technique, turns, and dive starts.

Our trial period is available throughout the first four weeks of each of the two seasons, separated into Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer.

A RWSC Coaching Sneak Preview: What Are the Four Competitive Strokes?

Your swimmer will learn and improve upon the four USA Swimming recognized competitive strokes including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly while also gaining expertise in competitive dive starts, turns, relays, teamwork, and racing strategy.

Freestyle: Also known as the front crawl, it is called Freestyle by competitive swimming coaches, swimmers, and parents alike. It involves alternating arm strokes over the water's surface accompanied by a flutter kick with the legs.

Backstroke: This stroke is easily identifiable as the only one performed supine (on your back). It is done using an alternating arm motion combined with a flutter kick. Backstrokers may flip onto their stomach to change direction at the wall (a flip turn), but it must be done in a continuous motion, with no more than one stroke permitted on the stomach. The swimmer must finish the race on their back.

Breaststroke: In breaststroke, swimmers execute a two-arm simultaneous stroke where hands move in a heart-shaped pattern extending from in front of the chest and recover either under or on the water's surface. The kick involves a simultaneous, somewhat circular motion reminiscent of a frog's kick. During turns and at the finish, swimmers must touch the wall with both hands simultaneously, whether at, above, or below the water's surface.

Butterfly: Butterfly requires a two-arm simultaneous stroke with an over-the-water arm recovery paired with a wave-like dolphin kick. In the kick, the swimmer must keep both legs together and not flutter, scissors, or use the breaststroke kick. At turns and the finish, both hands must touch the wall simultaneously.

We look forward to welcoming you to our incredible team.
