For a swim meet to run smoothly, the following is the minimum number of needed officials:
- 1 Meet Referee
- 1 Deck Referee
- 1 Starter
- 1 Administrative Referee/Official
- 4 Stroke and Turn Officials
When we attend a swim meet, the swimmer: official ratio goal is the following:

What are the advantages to be an official:
- Understand the different rules in swimming and stroke
- Have the front seat to watch your child’s swim
- Free food and drink at the meet hospitality
- Support your child
- Can get some incentive from your club and the host team
- Bring a good image for your club
- Meet a lot of new friends
- Have a new network communication
What is the time commitment being an official:
- Officiates at all your club’s meet
- When possible officiate when STAR attends an away swim meet
- To maintain your certification, you need to officiate a minimum of 4 sessions per year.
Currently, STAR has 2 active officials. That number needs to increase to provide a good presentation of the club.
