About Our Team

Long Course (Summer Swim)
During the long course season (April-July) swimmers race in a 50 meter pool (long course.) Registration typically opens in April and there is a one time registration fee that covers the cost of all practices and meets for the season and also a USA Swim fee. Great Plains Swim Club is part of the Great Plains Swim League and competes with teams from Derby, Valley Center, Twin Rivers, Wellington, Winfield, and Eldorado. The teams competes in dual meets either at home or away on Tuesday nights. For meets, swimmers must swim according to the USA Swim standards for each stroke. Swimmers compete in age/gender groups in a set series of events.
Gender/Age Groups:
-8 and under boys and girls
-9-10 boys and girls
-11-12 boys and girls
-13-14 boys and girls
-15 and older boys and girls
At the end of the season, there is a League Finals meet in which all teams compete. This meet is divided into two days; Friday afternoon for swimmers 13 and older and Saturday morning for swimmers 12 and under. The location of Finals changes every two years.
Additionally, swimmers who achieve a qualifying time for Missouri Valley Swimming are able to go on to compete at championship meets for the long course season later in July.
Short Course
The Piranhas started a short course team in 2019 and changed their name to the Great Plains Swim Club in 2025 in order to encompass swimmers from all of south central Kansas. Short course, in which swimmers race in 25 yard pools, runs from September through May and registration opens in August. Families pay a team registration fee and a USA Swim fee, then pay a monthly fee each month that their child swims during the season. This fee is determined based on their practice squad group and covers the cost of practices. The team participates in invitational meets which families have the option to attend for an additional fee. The team also has several intrasquad or dual meets during the season.
