The ACC Invites YOU!

2 Practice Changes this Week due to the ACC Championships:

  1. No GAC Evening Practices (we will definitely have BOTH next week).
  2. Thursday Practice times modified for ACC Championships at all sites, in order to allow for attendance of ACC Championships
  • All Friday practices and Saturday morning will stay the same, no changes here.

Thursday, February 28th, an Important Date:

We are adjusting and modifying ALL practice times on Thursday to allow for all swimmers and coaches to attend at each site.

NEW Thursday Site Times (for February 28th ONLY):

  • Bryan: 4:30pm-5:30pm – All levels and groups AND/OR 5:30am-7:00am BEFORE school option, all levels and groups – (Thursday Mako Swim League evening swimmers may also attend the Wednesday class to make up for this day).
  • Ragsdale: 4:00pm-4:30pm Mako Swim League Only, 4:30-5:30pm All Levels and groups

MORE about ACC Championships:

We DO want all swimmers to attend this event-

As we approach our final 2013 Short Course Championships (GYSSA, USRY and some at Age Group Sectionals and YMCA Nationals), we cannot think of a better way to prepare for these meets than to listen, hear, watch the pre-race routines, mannerism’s behind the blocks, warm-ups/cool-downs that happen before/after races, and to be in the presence of the intensity of major Division I collegiate swimming.  This is not a GCY social event, you will see friends and families from all sites and have fun, BUT we want you to absorb the things that it takes to compete successfully – this is a unique opportunity – PLEASE ATTEND with eyes and ears OPEN!

GCY is essentially a college prep swim team, and the ACC offers the area’s top competition.  Our BEST and top practice attender’s will one day be capable of swimming successfully at this level.  2 weeks ago there was a similar meet, ODAC Championships, in the same building – ALL of our current senior swimmers are capable of swimming successfully at that level.

Here is the timing of the night’s events, only charge will be for parking, no charge for the meet:

  1. The timing is - Arrive at the Coliseum Special Events Center at 6:00 (not the pool – SPECIAL Events Center). There will be a short program where you will hear from ACC swimmers and divers about what it is like to be a Student-Athlete, then meet and speak with them!
  2. At about 6:30 you will go to the pool and have reserved seats to watch the Championship finals.
  3. The meet starts at 7:00 and should finish about 8:30.

Former Greensboro Swimmers now ACC Swimmers:

·Kate Riley – Georgia Tech - former GCY swimmer, she finaled at Women’s Champs last week and did a 49 in her 100 freestyle, a lifetime best in her last meet – Kate practiced with us over breaks and during the summer while at Georgia Tech, as recently as December, and her dad is on our Masters Team!

·Mike Donnalley – Duke

·Harrison Brogden – Florida State

There will also be at least six Olympians participating in the meet.

*Lauren was the one of the only swimmers I observed 12&under who consistently went 15m dolphin kicks off her walls in meets…amazing how that eventually translated to a Gold Medal in the Olympics…she is from Greenville Swim Club who attended our fall home meet.
