Coaches and Directors
Coach Scott is entering his 26th year of coaching and 5th year of coaching with GCY. Coach Scott coaches all swimmers in National 1, National 2, National Prep and Senior Sprint groups. During Coach Scott’s 26 years of coaching swimming, he has coached championship level swimmers at the state, sectional, zone, national and Olympic trial level. He also has been head coach to 4 zone championship teams, 1 high school state championship team and a top 5 finish at prep high school National championship. His latest accomplishment is serving as coach to the GCY Nationals team leading them to a 9th place finish at the 2022 YMCA Short Course National Championship. His guidance and mentoring to other coaches at GCY and in the community is invaluable.
Coach Connor is beyond thrilled to be back on the pool deck with GCY! Connor will be coaching Makos 2 and Age Group at the Spears YMCA Monday-Wednesday and Bryan on Fridays and Saturdays. He originally was hired on staff in 2010 and coached through the summer of 2016. Connor also spent 2 summers coaching the YMCA Bears summer league team while coaching GCY.
During his tenure with GCY, Connor helped lead his swimmers to the following accomplishments: 60 Team records broken, 6 Individual State Championships, The High point award winner at the 2012 NC 14&Under State Championships, 3 Athletes invited to compete on the 2013 NC Long Course Zone Team (8 best athletes in the state in their age group are selected) 8 Athletes invited to attend North Carolina Swimmings zone select camp, 13 YMCA National top 10 rankings (top 10 in the country for YMCA's), 2 YMCA National Championship qualifiers (12 and 13 years old respectively). He helped GCY win both the 2013 and 2014 YMCA USRY Regional meet, and helped the 2014 and 2015 14&under team finish 9th at 14&under state championships which at the time was the highest placement in known GCY history.
Connor was also named an assistant coach on North Carolina's 2014 and 2015 zone team, as well as an assistant coach for the 2014 and 2015 zone select camp.
Connor has spent the past 10 years in the car business. He was at Reidsville Nissan in Reidsville NC for 8 years in various rolls from internet sales to finance manager and sales manager. He started working for a credit union in 2022 as a dealer sales manager, working with car dealerships across the state helping people finance their new cars.
The YMCA has always felt like home for Connor. He went to the Y's after school program every year he was in school, spent summers at Camp Pioneer in High Point, and his first job was a lifeguard at the Reuter Family YMCA in Asheville. Every member of his immediate family worked for a YMCA at some point in their lives. His grandfather folded towels in the 1940's at the High Point YMCA, his dad recently retired as the CEO of the Goldsboro NC YMCA, and his stepmother currently serves as the Event Services Manager for the YMCA of the USA (to name a few).
Connors favorite part of coaching for the YMCA is instilling the core values first, while teaching competitive swimming second. His primary goal is children graduate our program with knowing the importance of respecting themselves, their teammates and others. He is a firm believer that during the time we spend with children we make a huge impact in the person they become, which is why he is proud to serve the YMCA of Greensboro's swim team.
