2013 GCY Long Course Schedule
We also posted a few weeks ago, but below is the link to our official and printable long course meet scedule:
2013 GCY Long Course Meet Schedule
The long course practice schedule will also be announced shortly. We'd like to encourage ALL SWIMMERS to continue through the long course season! It's just an additonal 2 months (ends July 31), and we have arranged for prime time practices at the GAC facility, selected mornings starting at 7am-9am, selected evenings from 6pm-7:30pm (Different group times will vary, all groups AG1, AG2, Senior Prep, Senior, and National will have multiple times).
5 compelling reasons to swim through the long course season:
Long Course competitions are in 50 meters. Swim meets over the summer take place in 50 meter pools. This is the size of pool used in Olympic competitions as well as National competitions for the Senior level swimmers. Swimming in this longer pool makes 25 yard pool events seem much easier. Many swimmers prefer to race in the 50 meter pool. You may never know what your child is better at if they do not get a chance to compete in it.
It is more ‘bang for your buck’. Being a current member of the GCY Swim Team means that you have already paid your yearly registration and USA Swimming fee’s and there is no additional fundraising and very little volunteering over the long course season. In addition, most of the practices are held in the nicest facility in the country with no additional charges.
Group progression can be compromised. Swimmers who are progressing through the GCY Swim Team program, but do not swim long course, face an uphill battle when or if they move to a higher level training group. Summer swim teams will not be able to provide the level of training we do.
Summer League Swimmers are welcomed. GCY may have made history as the first year-round USA Swimming Team to place a summer only meet on it's schedule, the 2013 Greensboro City Meet. We did that for various reasons, but primarily because this meet serves as the foundation for of our existence, and so many of us are involved. We wanted to also show everyone that we support summer swimming, we know that it is extremely important to our swimmers, and therefor it is extremely important to us as coaches. We want you to swim fast, we will help you swim fast, and we think the short course sprinting really helps - in turn, most of the higher level competition will still be training with his/her year round clubs, stay with us and we will help you prepare!
If you are new to Greensboro and would like more information on possible summer teams to join (8-week season), please ask our coaching staff for possible options, including the YMCA Bears, separate from GCY but operated through the YMCA.
YMCA Nationals: Absolutely the best national swim championship in the country, one of the few that has all the 50's at the scoring level! Last year, GCY had 2 YMCA All-Americans, a tremendous honor earned by making A or B finals. Any swimmer ages 12&up who were close or had a NC Senior Champ level time standard in short course, has a realistic chance to achieve a YMCA National Long Course standard with some hard work!
