An online petition was created by women's swim team captain Sarah Smith in hopes of raising awareness.
Within 24 hours of being created, the petition had over 6,000 signatures. Even Olympic swimmers including Ryan Lochte and Dara Torres have re-tweeted tweets from UNCW swimmers.
Chancellor Gary Miller's email was added to the petition. After every new signature, Miller will receive an email, notifying him of a new signature. Signees are also able to leave personal messages when signing the petition.
