Championship Time!
CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON IS UPON US!
We have a lot of big meets approaching that we offer this time of year – we’d like all of year round swimmers to participate in at least one, and realize MOST of you will be doing multiple meets! It gets confusing, especially for our new swimmers, so we have brief explanations of each meet below.
All of these championship meets have been updated with as much information as there is out there at this time, including NC 14&Under Champs, NC Senior Champs, GYSSA, USRY, AG Sectionals, YMCA Nationals, and the LC qualifier on April 5th.
Here is a guide to help you pick meets to attend:
NC 14&Under Champ Feb 13-16 at the GAC in Greensboro, NC
High Priority Meet - all qualifiers please attend; relay only swimmers will be needed in certain age groups, and we will ask you to confirm after our home meet Feb 1-2.
NC Senior Champs Feb 20 -23 at the TAC in Cary, NC:
High Priority Meet - all qualifiers please attend, coaches will make sure training is adapted to do well. Relays will only be swum when enough qualifiers are competing in the session (no relay only situations for this meet).
GYSSA Champioships Feb 28 – March 2 at Goldsboro YMCA in Goldsboro, NC:
High Priority Meet - our league's championship meet and the last closed YMCA meet offered; ALL GCY swimmers are eligible, even those that made 14&Under Champs may attend! Hotel Information has been updated!
Special Event this year: Olympic Gold Medalist Lauren Perdue will be speaking AND signing autographs between sessions on Saturday.
Definitely do this meet if any applies:
- If you need any more USRY time standards in events you wish to compete in at USRY's.
- If you did not make NC 14&Under Champs, you will need this meet to stay sharp as USRY's are still over a month away (1 1/2 months from our Winter Invite).
- If you need 1 additional closed YMCA meet to become eligible for our USRY meet.
- If you have no USRY cuts - this will serve as both your championship meet and last chance meet to make USRY cuts
- If you only swam relay only OR a low event total at NC 14&Under/NC Senior Champs
- If you want to go just to have fun and stay tuned up for USRY Champs!
USRY Championships March 13-16 at Rock Hill YMCA in Rock Hill, SC:
Highest priority meet on the schedule, we need all qualifiers to attend - this is our YMCA regional championship meet. You will see the fastest YMCA competition in the southeast part of the United States. We want all qualifiers competing - this will also prepare YMCA National qualifiers to compete at nationals, and will be a last chance opportunity to make cuts. HOTEL INFORMATION has been updated!
AG Sectionals March 20-23 in Atlanta, Ga:
This meet was not on our schedule, but we will allow conditional attendance. Located in Atlanta, Ga, we have decided to give GCY swimmers the option to do this meet ONLY if you do not skip USRY Champs. That's right, this meet should not be used in leui of Y-regionals (USRY), we still want you in Rock Hill! We suggest for those only with multiple cuts and times that are well under the cut since it’s so far away this season; we will only be sending one coach and likely not offering relays.
YMCA Nationals April 1-4 at the GAC in Greensboro, NC:
Called the best national championship meet in the country(period). Our highest level meet, it is an honor to make these cuts, and we want all swimmers competing ready to do represent Greensboro and do his/her fastest. Our sponsor, Speedo, provides substantial discounts and has offered free gear/suits for swimmers who achieve the time standard and attend the championship meet. Colleges recruit based on results, and YMCA All-Americans are named.
LC Time Trial Meet on April 5th:
ALL swimmers will be eligible for at least one of the two sessions offered! The goal is to achieve the YMCA LC National time standard while still swimming fast from the SC season, or any other LC Championship Cut. Any 13&Over swimmer who makes a NC Senior Champs time standard has a very realistic chance to make YMCA LC Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. All swimmers are invited and encouraged to attend.
If you have any questions about any meet, please see our meet event page and the meet information, all now updated!
