GCY's Alex Kreager and Jake Ennis Sign with Local Division 1 Schools!
CONGRATULATIONS to GCY's Alex Kreager and Jake Ennis! Both earned Division 1 scholarships and signed this week with 2 great schools with fantastic swim programs!
ALEX KREAGER: Alex chose East Carolina University over the University of Houston and Towson University in what was a very hotly contested recruiting battle! Alex became known in "the swim heard around the world" when she won the semi-finals heat at the NC 4-A State High School Championships in an impressive 500-yard free time of 5:01.11. Showing her versatility, she also finaled at YMCA Nationals in back-to-back years in Atlanta, Ga then Indianapolis, IN in the 400 IM. She also beat every Division 1 swimmer in that event at the Southern Zone Senior Sectionals held in July of this year. Alex is expected to contribute right away, and ECU's Head Coach Rick Kobe, Houston's Head Coach Rich Murphey, and Towson's Head Coach Pat Mead all personally called the GCY office on a regular basis to check in on Alex's decision! Alex is a senior at Grimsley High School in Greensboro, NC. To learn more about the ECU Swim Team, CLICK HERE!

JAKE ENNIS: 1 year ago on this date GCY's Jake Ennis was just another swimmer with alot of potential. But during that 2013-2014 season he decided to turn it on and became a YMCA National qualifier and finalist in Indianapolis, IN, and arguably developed into the top breaststroker in the programs history! Several Division 1 schools took notice, including up and coming powerhouse Gardner-Webb. At the NC Fall College Invitational, Gardner Webb grabbed everyone's attention and finished 4th behind ECU, NC State, and Davidson College - ahead of nationally ranked Queens College and St Andrews. Jake is the current GCY team record holder for the 100-yard breaststroke, and 50-meter breaststroke, and right now is still GCY's top sprint freestyler. He is a Senior at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, NC, where is aiming for a state title in February. Great job and good luck Jake! To learn more about the Gardner Webb swim team, CLICK HERE!
