GCY/GAC Schedule Changes for National Championships

As many of you may know, Greensboro is hosting the National Championships for USA Swimming this coming week at the GAC.  GCY's Heather Sigmon became the only 18-under swimmer from Greensboro to qualify for this event in a sizzling 55.58 seconds for a 100-yard backstroke, she is seeded 66th!  She'll be competing Friday morning, between 11am-11:30am, for a national title, then again Sunday morning, for a shot at the Olympic Trial standard!  Big names in the meet include Katie Ledecky and Nathan Adrian, congrats Heather and let's go to compete, get ready to swim fast!

We know that all of our swimmers CANNOT fit into Bryan YMCA all at once ON WEDNESDAY, DEC 3RD, but there is a BIG event!   We want to encourage EVERYONE to attend the “Swim Fest” which will be from 3:00-6:00 in the Special Events Center and then go to the first night of Nationals.  We also know that the MAJORITY of our High School swimmers have a meet Wednesday afternoon, so that group should be significantly smaller.

ALL MORNING PRACTCIES  AFTER MONDAY BEGINNING TUESDAY morning ARE AT BRYAN YMCA: We highly encourage morning practices for all Senior Prep and above levels to ease crowding in the afternoons at Bryan YMCA because of GAC closing.

We will have $2 off coupons for everyone for Wednesday night and you get that discount through NC Swimming every time you purchase a ticket at the door.  There are two events that night, the 200 Medley and 800 Free relays, which should provide for an exciting start to the meet.

The Swim Fest is designed to be a fun event to promote swimming and so we would like everyone to attend.  There is no charge and there will be booths with games and give away items, large blow up obstacle courses, athlete interviews and a visit from Santa for pictures and lists.  This would be a great event to bring a friend to just so they can learn more about the sport of swimming and have some fun!!  Please plan on coming, bringing a friend and sharing this information with others that you think would like to come and have a good time!!
