GCY Swimmers Caught Fire this past Weekend!

We are way late with this news, but in case you did not hear, GCY swimmers caught fire and swam fast this weekend in BOTH Atlanta, GA AND Greensboro, NC!  Mulitple team records, JO and Senior Champ cuts were made, and some more special accomplishments we have singled out here! We are so proud of the swimmers, below are a few standouts and some great pictures!

Atlanta Highlights:

Swimmers LITERALLY got to swim next to Olympic Gold Medalists in one of the stronger meets we've ever competed in thanks to the University of Florida Gators attending!  Also, swimming at the legendary Dynamo Swim Club, going to the Georgia Aquarium and Coke Museum were fun parts of the trip.

Multiple Swimmers either won an event at this FAST meet OR acheived NEW NATIONAL level time standards, including:

  • 2 New YMCA National Qualifiers:
    • Davis Hoover - 100 Breast 1:12.06 (and 50 breast qualifier)
    • Jack Rindal - 100 Back 1:04.37 (and 50 back qualifier)
  • 2 NEW YMCA National qualifying standards:
    • McKenzie Campbell - 100 Fly 1:07.15 (and 50 fly qualifier)
    • Virginia Gilliland - 100 Breast 1:19.70 (and 50 Breast qualifier)
  • 1 New Winter Senior National (2015), Summer Junior National (2015), and Arena Pro Swim Series Time Standard (2015-2016 UltraSwim and others)
    • Heather Sigmon, 100 Back, 1:04.17
  • Champions, won an event at one of faster meets in the country that particular weekend:
    • ​Craig Herndon - 200 Breast
    • McKenzie Cole - 100 Breast
    • Heather Sigmon - 100 Back

Eastern Invitational Highlights:

WOW!  Despite bring just 12&Unders, GCY tallied more individual wins in this Eastern Invitational than ever before thanks to some SUPER strong performances!

  • Champions:
    • Agnes Cruz - Gold Medals in 200 Free, 100 Back, 50 Free, 50 Back, and 100 Fly
    • Emily Ally - Gold Medals in 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 50 Breast, and 100 Breast
    • Noah Rock - Gold Medals in 50 Fly, 50 Back, 100 Back, and 50 Free
  • NEW JO qualifiers (not previously qualified for LC Champs)
    • ​David Masneri (50 Breast and 100 Breast)
