Applications for NC Zone Team and Scholastic All-American Teams
Applications for NC Zone Team and Scholastic All-American Teams
GCY has several swimmers that may qualifity for 1 of these 2 groups, both involve self-applications (swimmer and/or parent apply directly, not coach). Even if you are a year or 2 or more away from this achievement, it might be fun to look at and get familiar with these 2 items. BOTH are swimmer driven (swimmer is encouraged to do the legwork) and are COMPLICATED processes.
We have tried to talk individually with those who may qualify, but did not get to everyone, PLEASE NOTE THE DEADLINES. If you miss the deadline you will miss the opportunity, both take much more than 1 day. Often times, it is VERY beneficial to have the swimmer GO THROUGH the application a year prior to become familiar with the process.
Here are the 2 application links with all the information (Please keep in mind we will have to reference these links to answer any questions you may have):
- NC ZONE TEAM APPLICATION (Deadline is July 7th, don't wait it is very involved, late applications accepted at discretion of Zone Staff). Only apply if you are 11&Over and it is realistic for you to get top 8 at NC State Champs Meet (14&Unders or Senior Champs) in multilpe events and distances, you will miss YMCA Nationals if you are selected, it is the same week. You will be representing the state of NC versuses the highest level of competition in the Southeast. (No athlete can compete however if they have already achieved a Junior National time standard).
- SCHOLASTIC ALL AMERICAN APPLICATION PROCESS and SCHOLASTIC ALL AMERICAN APPLICATION (Deadline is August 15th, don't wait, it is very involved, and late applications are not accepted, no exceptions). Current GCY swimmers with the time standards to apply are Laurel Kiselis, Heather Sigmon, Andre Richardson, and Jake Ennis. This is one of the most recognized honors in USA Swimming, and used as a recruiting tool for most major collegiate swim teams for underclassmen.
Thanks everyone and GOOD LUCK!
