The 2015-2016 GCY Competitive Swim Season starts Tuesday, August 25th!
Here are some quick answers to some commonly asked questions:
- When do the Seasonal groups start?
- Although the competitive groups start Tuesday, August 25th, the Seasonal groups all start Monday, August 31st!
- EXCEPTION: All of Reidsville site starts Monday, August 31st, for competitive levels!
- Is the meet schedule out yet?
- Yes! There are still a few meets (mainly in March) whose location and dates are not yet determined (Sectionals, GYSSA, etc...) but here is the official meet schedule with those tentative meets mentioned:

- Do morning practices also start Tuesday, August 25th?
- Yes! Because so many of our swimmers have traditionally used mornings as his/her main practice time, we offer mornings starting immediately. We encourage all of the swimmers that do doubles to hold off on doing that until the week of September 13th, in order to get a great start off to the school year!

- What's Flexible Friday?
- We have the GAC every Friday where there is not a meet that prevents us from practicing. On Fridays, any swimmer from AG1, AG2, Senior Prep, and Senior can practice on Friday at the GAC from 6pm-8pm. Dryland is 6-6:30pm, and swimming is 6:30pm through normal practice end time (AG1 releases at 7:30, AG2 at 7:45, and Senior Prep and Senior releases at 8pm). Swimmers may stay also at his/her host site, see the BONUS BENEFITS section to learn more!
- GCY starts so early and we just finished with Open House, is attendance required this week?
- No, we want our student-athlete swimmers to get off to a great start on the school year too. We traditionally waive attendance requirements the first week so that there is time to adjust to the schedule...having said this, many of you find this to be one of the easier school weeks, so if thats your situation we hope to see you more!
- I haven't registered yet, can I still come out and practice?
- Yes! As long as there is space available, we encourage all of those who haven't yet registered to practice if they can and register this week.
- I get paid at the end of the month, and school supplies set us back, can you hold my registration fee check until August 31st or September 1st?
- Yes! We will traditionally work with swimmers and parents on payment delays when needed, we do not want swimmers to miss practice for this, just let us know!
- I still owe meet or other fees from 2014-2015, that's why I haven't registered, can we still sign-up?
- Yes, please contact Cynthia Shannon to set-up payment arrangements for the remaining fees and sign-up today! We don't want the swimmers to miss practice for this, just let us know!
- ALSO, Can we just bring in our registration forms the first week of practice as done in years past?
- Answer: Yes! As long as there is space available (only 2 seasonal groups are now full, all competitive/national groups have openings)
- What classes are full or nearing capacity?
- 3:30-5:00pm AG1/AG2/Senior Prep/Seasonal at Bryan - based on registrations and pending registrations, we anticipate this option to fill at some point with several groups, but specifically the Mon/Wed option for seasonal swimmers is close to being full.
- MSL 1 (Tues/Thur) at Spears (Seasonal) - Full with a waiting list - AG1, AG2, and Senior Prep still have room!
- MSL 2 (Mon/Wed) at Spears (Seasonal) - Almost full - AG1, AG2, and Senior Prep still have room!
- We expect BOTH National Groups to reach capacity at some point, don't delay!
- Does the dryland options/classes start this week?
- Yes! Coaches will be introducing each group to their specific dryland schedule, which varies by site and groups.
- Do we have practice on Labor Day (Monday, September 7th) and/or that Saturday of the same weekend?
- No for Labor Day, all groups and all levels are OFF on Labor Day.
- Yes for Saturdays, we do have practice this Saturday, August 29th and going forward!
- Why aren't you starting Monday, August 24th, first day of school?
- We will be having our last coaches meeting going into the season on that date.
- When will the parent meetings and distribution dates be announced?
- We will be announcing the Parent Meeting dates (by site), the Team Picture and T-Shirt Tie-Dye Date, Team Equipment Day, and the Makos Club meeting (all in September) shortly, after our final coaches meeting on Monday.
- Distribution day is when we hand out the yearly t-shirt, new swim cap, magnets, and anything else we owe you!
- What equipment will my swimmer need?
- This is VERY IMPORTANT...it is difficult for a swimmer to experience success if he/she is lacking the proper equipment - CLICK HERE FOR THE EQUIPMENT LIST BY GROUP SHEET
- HINT: We are a "long" fin team, not short fins! We wear fins alot, and utilize them for not just kicking but alot of speed work...properly fitting long fins are priority 1!

- How do I get other team apparel and team equipment in the meantime?
