ABOUT NCAT

ABOUT US

The North Coast Aquatic Team (NCAT) is a competitive swimming team for athletes age 6 and older. The resulted from the merger of two clubs in 2022: the Shaker Sharks and the Solon Stars. NCAT combines the strength and tradition of both clubs - experienced coaching staffs with deep knowledge of swimming, complimentary philosophies, positive team cultures, and swimmers who compete successfully across all age groups. We offer practices at mutiple sites in Shaker Heights , Solon and now also in Brecksville Broadview Heights. NCAT is a member club of USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States and the largest program of guided fitness activity for children in the country.

HOW WE OPERATE

NCAT is a member club of USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States and the largest program of guided fitness activity for children in the country. We operate year-round (with small breaks in March and August) and have open registration for most of that time.

While we operate thoughout the year, we have two main training competition seasons: Winter, which run from September to March, and Summer, which runs from April through July. Over the Winter season, most of our meets are conducted in short course (25 yard pools). Over the summer, most of our meets are conducting in long course (50 meter) pools. Each season culminates with local and national championship meets. We conduct tryouts before the start of each season, but registration is open year-round and tryouts can be scheduled for swimmers who join mid season.

We operate out of three locations: Shaker Heights (run by Head Site Coach and NCAT Director Eric Peterson) and Solon (run by Head Site Coach Dave Perchinske) and Brecksville Broadview Heights (run by Head Site Coach Liz Hastings). Each site has different coaches and runs their own workouts, but follow the same guiding philosophies and seasonal training plans.

HOW TO JOIN

  1. Tryout - Join us for our group tryouts at the start of each season, or reach out to the team office to schedule an individual tryout if joining mid-season. Tryouts are required for all new members to determine the appropriate group placement.

  2. Register - Once you have completed the tryout and spoken with a coach, register on this site. Please click the "Registration" tab of this page. The site will guide you through the registration process, but please reach out if you have any questions.

  3. Get Your Training Equipment - Once registered, check the equipment list (located below) to see what equipment your swimmer will need for their training group. All swimmers are required to provide their own equipment. You may start practicing before you have all of your equipment however; we have some equipment at each site that can be borrowed until your equipment arrives.

  4. Go to Practice - Once you have registered, you are ready to attend practice!
