Ed Bachman Director, Lead Senior I & PreSenior

University of Cincinnati – Four Year Varsity Swimmer and Team Captain  

Ed has been swimming for more than 50 years as a swimmer and a coach. Ed was a High School All-American at Mariemont High School and inducted into the MHS Hall of Fame. At the University of Cincinnati, Ed majored in Education. He was an NCAA Division I qualifier in the 1650 (the mile) and finished 13th in the mile at USA Senior Nationals.

After graduating from UC, Ed became a professional triathlete for seven years, was ranked in the Top 20 for Olympic Distance in the U.S. and was a two-time Hawaiian Ironman qualifier. Ed hung up his triathlon gear to coach full time in 1980 and became a member of the A.B. staff in 1986 as the 13-14 coach under the great Larry Lyons, former head coach of ABLY.

Ed rejoined the Anderson Barracudas in 2015, after spending twelve years owning and coaching his club team, Kingfish Aquatic Club, as well as Gamble Nippert YMCA before that.

Under his coaching, his swimmers have accomplished the following; more than 80 High School All-Americans, over 20 Ohio and Kentucky High School State Champions including 5 High School State Record Holders and one Swimming World "National Swimmer of the Year."

In addition to coaching swimmers from the entry-level to the highest levels in the sport, Ed himself is a nationally recognized coach. Under his leadership, his ABLY teams have accomplished six consecutive National titles, Seven-time YMCA National Champions short course, and long course seasons. Anderson Barracudas was a Gold Medal club – Top 16 of all USA clubs in the country and the only YMCA team that year with Gold Medal status. Under Ed's leadership, ABLY was the first YMCA team to win the Summer Nationals boys title, girls title, and combined team title. 

Ed has been named the Ohio High School State Coach of the Year, Ohio High School District Coach of the year twelve times and Elected to Hall of Fame by Ohio High School Coaches Assoc. Ed has been a National YMCA Coach of the Year, a three-time recipient of the USA Swimming Performance Award. He has served as a member of the Ohio High School Executive Committee for over 25 years, on the Board of Directors of Ohio Swimming, Ohio High School Swimming Coaches Association former president. Ed also served on the Olympic Training Center coaching staff on two separate occasions

In his free time, Ed still enjoys biking, is an avid golfer, and escapes a few times a year to ski in Colorado.

Betsy has been a part of the Barracuda family since she could walk. First, as a little sibling and then as a swimmer when she was 6. She swam her way through the program until she graduated from Turpin High School in 2019. During her time at ABLY, she was a 3-time summer YMCA National qualifier and a 2-time winter YMCA National qualifier. Moreover, she was a 2-time OHSAA State qualifier, where she placed 11th in the 500 Freestyle. Her favorite events are long-distance freestyle and backstroke. 

She started coaching for ABLY in the fall of 2020 as the Pre-Competition coach. The following season she assisted the Bronze group. This season Betsy is looking forward to coaching the Pre-Senior group. She was the head coach of Turpin Hills Swim Club from 2020-22. 

She has always loved being in the water. Every summer Betsy and her family swim a mile across Walloon Lake in Michigan. She is currently studying Anthropology at The University of Cincinnati. If she is not coaching or studying, you can find her outside hiking, biking, or camping. 

 

Brittany Sutphin Lead Silver

Brittany Sutphin joined the coaching staff as Head Coach to the Bronze Group but is not new to the team. She started her swimming career at Turpin Hill Swim Club, then swam at Mariemont Aquatics Club before becoming an Anderson Barracuda. Brittany also swam all 4 years as a varsity swimmer at Turpin High School where she focused on distance freestyle events 500 and 1650 were her favorite events, but also loved 200 IM. Her coaching career started in summer league at Coldstream Country Club, before coaching junior varsity at Turpin High School. In addition to coaching, she spent 7 years working for Cincinnati Recreation Commission teaching adapted aquatics to individuals with disabilities. Brittany took a break from coaching to raise a family and pursue other career's, but when her children join the team she realized that her passion was to be back on the pool deck.

Rebekah Ko Lead Bronze

Coach Bekah joined the ABLY coaching staff in the fall of 2022 after being the Lead Age Group Coach at RC Durr the last five years.  During her time at RC Durr Coach Bekah was named Cincinnati Age Group Coach of the Year in 2019 and won the AA 8 & Under Boys High Points award in both Short and Long Course Conference Championships in 2022.  Her 10 & Under boys also took third place in high points at the Great Lakes Zones Championships in 2022.  

Bekah swam and played water polo for Lindenwood Univeristy in St. Charles, MO where she was a member of the National Teams in both sports and was the team's leading scorer in water polo her senior year.  She graduated with honors as an All-American Scholar Athlete, and went on to complete her Master's Degree at Villanova University.

Kendra Farnham Lead Cudas

Kendra Farnham joined the ABLY coaching staff in the fall of 2022. Kendra started her swimming career in Lafayette, Louisiana with the City Of Lafayette Aquatics and Lafayette High school. Kendra was a high school state champion in breaststroke and IM events (1996-1999), senior national qualifier in 100/200 breaststroke and junior national qualifier in 200 IM/400IM/1650 free. Kendra was also a Scholastic All-American, Louisiana Athletic representative for USA swimming and high school swim team captain.
After high school, she earned an athletic scholarship to swim for the University of Kentucky. During her 4 years at UK, she was voted women’s team captain her senior year and earned SEC academic honor roll. Kendra earned a bachelors of education degree with a focus in kinesiology before continuing her education at Eastern Kentucky University, where she earned a masters of science degree with a focus of occupational therapy.
Kendra’s coaching career started with her home club swim team of City of Lafayette Aquatics in Lafayette, La (1998-2002) coaching 12 and under swimmers. After college, Kendra was the head coach of the Waterford Waverunners summer league team (2005-2006) and the assistant age group swim coach of Wildcat Aquatics (2005-2008) in Lexington, Ky. Kendra took a break from coaching to start her occupational therapy career and a family with her husband, Daniel. Kendra is excited to be back on the pool deck, sharing her love of the sport and helping to develop the next generation of swimmers.

Sandy was a competitive swimmer for 12 years and has spent the last 10 years teaching private lessons at the Campbell County YMCA. She has spent the last 3 years as the Head Coach of the Ft. Thomas Swim Club. During the school year she is a substitute teacher. We welcome Sandy to the Barracuda family.
