Disqualifications in Races
A common term for new swimmers to hear is disqualification, or DQ. This means a swimmer violated one of the requirements of a stroke and is no longer ranked in competition. Their finish time becomes void. Meet Mobile (the phone app) may initially show a finish time and ranking, then later be replaced by a DQ once the paperwork is turned in and recorded from the race.
Any questions about DQs shall be directed to coaches, never to an official.
Disqualifying is completely normal, especially in the beginning. It is a rite of passage as swimmers build skill and experience. DQ's are typically met with a, "you'll get 'em next time" attitude.
