Water Polo Levels
Group Placement at BAC Water Polo
At BAC Water Polo, our primary goal is to ensure each athlete trains in an environment suited to their skill level, fostering both individual and team growth. We structure our groups with a focus on player development, considering both age and experience to maximize potential.
Key Factors in Group Placement:
- Water Polo Experience & Commitment: Athletes are placed based on their experience in the sport and commitment to attending practices and games.
- Swimming Skills: A strong demonstration of swimming proficiency, including eggbeater technique and endurance, is essential for placement.
- Water Polo Proficiency: Player skills in water polo, including tactics, positioning, and overall gameplay, are key factors in the placement process.
Dynamic Group Structure:
- While we generally place athletes in groups that match their experience, there may be times when adjustments are needed based on specific tournament requirements or age groupings.
- For age-based tournaments, USA Water Polo guidelines dictate that athletes are placed according to their age on August 1st of the competition year. For example, an athlete who turns 16 on August 1st, 2016, will compete in the 16U age group.
A Flexible Approach:
Our approach is fluid and evolves with the season. Players may be moved between groups as they progress in skills, endurance, and commitment. The coaches will always place athletes where they have the best opportunity for growth and development, both individually and as part of the team.
Team Placement Decisions:
Ultimately, group placement decisions are made by the coaches, who consider each athlete’s development, abilities, and the needs of the team. This allows us to ensure every player is in an environment that helps them reach their full potential.
