New to the team? Welcome!!
We'd love for you to join us for a summer of fun and swimming!
What is CNSL and the CHS Sundevils?
The Clary's Forest/Hawthorn/Swansfield (CHS) Sundevils is a summer recreational swim team a part of the Columbia Neighborhood Swim League (CNSL). The league is open to swimmers 18 years old and younger with all ability levels who meet the League Requirements. Columbia Association (CA) provides coaches, facilities, and a framework for CNSL participants to improve their swimming abilities, develop good sportsmanship, and test performance in actual competition as part of a team in a sage and supportive learning environment.
What are the league requirements?
All swimmers are welcome to join the CHS Sundevils provided they meet the league requirements. This means swimming a specified distance depending on their age unassisted (no touching the bottom, the lane line, or another person):
- 10 years and younger: 1 length of the pool (25 yards or meters)
- 11 years and older: 2 lengths of the pool (50 yards or meters)
This can be swum doing any stroke, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly.
When should you come to practice?
New swimmers are invited to attend First Splash (May 27-30, 2025), registration not required, from 5:00-5:30pm at Hawthorn Pool. Swimmers will swim with the coaches until they have successfully completed the required distance (unassisted) based on their age. Once they have swum this distance, swimmers will be invited to attend the practice time for their age group that day and for the rest of the first week.
Starting the second week of practice (June 2, 2025), swimmers will need to be registered to participate in practice.
Swimmers have until Time Trials (June 7, 2025) to swim the necessary distance for their age group successfully to remain on the team.
The full practice schedule can be found here.
What is my swimmer's age group?
An age group is a set of ages that are used to group swimmers together. The CNSL age groups are: 6 and under (6&U), 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18.
A swimmer's age for the entire summer season (dual meets and All-City Championship Meet) is determined by their age as of June 1st. A swimmer whose birthday occurs during the summer season remains their age as of June 1st, therefore their age group does not change. For example, a swimmer whose 9th birthday is on June 1 swims in the 9-10 age group, while a swimmer whose 9th birthday is June 2 swims in the 7-8 age group.
How do I register for the team?
All registration happens through Columbia Association's website. Additional information can be found on CNSL's website here.
