Meet Volunteer Job Descriptions
Clerk of Course: Line up swimmers in lane order according to the meet sheet and escort all swimmers to their assigned lanes.
Computer Ops: Help with computer entries at the meet. Training will be provided.
Concessions – Bagels: Works with the Concessions Coordinator to order, purchase, and pick up bagels for Saturday home meets.
Concessions – Burritos: Works with the Concessions Coordinator to order, purchase, and pick up burritos for Saturday home meets.
Concessions – Ice: Picks up two bags of ice, comes to the pool BEFORE THE MEET, and dumps the ice into the drink coolers. For A meets, ice needs to be delivered on Friday night before 8pm. For B meets, ice needs to be delivered on Wednesday by 3pm.
Concessions – Pizza: Works with the Concessions Coordinator to order, purchase, and pick up ordered pizzas from Costco for Wednesday home meets.
Concessions – Watermelon: Purchases a watermelon and cuts it up and packages it and brings it to the meet. The Concessions Coordinator will be in touch a few days ahead of the meet to provide more details and packaging.
Concessions – Work the meet: Works with the Concessions Coordinator to manage the concession stand and sell food at the meet. Must arrive early to assist the Coordinator with set up before the meet and clean up at the end.
Heat Winner Ribbon Distributor: Distributes heat winner ribbons (or ducks) to heat winners. This position is specific to developmental B meets.
Meet Runner: Collect completed event/heat cards from all lane timers and bring them to the meet table. For 25 Meters/Yards events, collect swimmer cards and distribute to timers before each heat.
Meet Table: Manage team ribbons, help with swimmer cards & DQ slips. Volunteers sit at a table under an umbrella or tent.
Official - Referee: Makes sure that the league rules are followed in running the meet. The home team provides one Referee for the meet. REQUIRES CSL CERTIFICATION.
Official - Starter: Starts each heat after making sure that swimmers and timers are ready. The away team provides one Starter per meet. REQUIRES CSL CERTIFICATION.
Official - Stroke & Turn Judge: Verifies that the swimmers are swimming legal strokes, including turns and relay starts. Each team is required to provide at least two Stroke & Turn Officials per meet. REQUIRES CSL CERTIFICATION.
Team Area Supervisor: Distributes cards to our team swimmers and makes sure swimmers get to clerk of course.
Timing - Assistant Head Timer: This position is for away meets and backs up the home team Head Timer. Please reference the Head Timer position description
Timing - Head Timer: Distributes stopwatches, gives a scripted briefing before the meet on the correct procedure for timing, and assigns timers to lanes. Starts a pair of extra watches in case a timer misses the start or has a malfunctioning watch. The home team is required to provide one Head Timer. The away team is required to provide one Assistant Head Timer.
Timing - Lane Timer: Must arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the meet (7:30 am on Saturdays and 5:30 pm on Wednesdays) to participate in a timer briefing and get a lane assignment. Captures times for each lane swimmer and records results. Saturday morning meets have one shift, so volunteers must stay and time the entire meet. There are two timer slots for Wednesday evening B meets; the first shift times the first two strokes, and the second timing shift times for the third stroke until the end of the meet.
