Dolfins February News

Hello Dolfin Families!

With so much rain it’s easy to forget that swim team starts soon!  This year our season starts on April 8.   Register early to take advantage of our discount rates.  Rates increase on March 1 and again on April 1.  A payment plan is still available.  If you know anyone who is interested in joining Dolfins or Mini Dolfins, we have Try Outs at 9:00 am on March 16 at PH Aquatic Park.  I will be there to answer any questions.

We know that swimmers are busy with school and other activities in the spring.  We work on the same stroke every week, so even if swimmers make just 1 or 2 practices they will still benefit. 

ED CENTER POOL

Some of you may have heard that the Ed Center pool has been closed.  We have a contractor scheduled to patch the plaster on March 25 & 26 so we should be ready to go at the start of the season.

DOLFINS PRACTICE

There was an error in the Spring practice times in the Winter/Spring Spotlight.  Our practice times will remain the same as last year.  The flyer (attached) has the correct practice times.

Practice Schedule (Season runs 4/8-7/29)

Spring Practice held at PH Aquatic Park: 147 Gregory Lane;

Summer practice at PH Education Center Pool: 1 Santa Barbara Road

*For 9-18 swimmers: all practices are at PH Education Center Pool.  Optional summer afternoon practice 5-6pm.  No practice May 27, July 4-7.  County meet qualifying swimmers practice through August 2.  All practices move to PH Education Center Pool on 5/13.

SPRING SWIM CLINICS

Due to new County rules, we are only able to offer two Spring Clinics this year starting March 5.  These clinics will be at PH Aquatic Park.  It’s a great way to get a head start on the season!

PRE-SWIM TEAM

If you have a new swimmer just starting Dolfins I highly recommend taking the Pre-Swim Team Clinic.  It’s a great way to connect with the coaches, learn important swim team skills and build confidence before the first day of practice.  Please pass this information on to any friends who are interested in joining the team as well.  Pre-Swim Team Clinics are offered for swimmers 4-13 years old and held at PH Aquatic Park.

3/18-3/28, M/Tu/Th

4 & 5 year olds        4:00-4:30pm

6-8 year olds           4:30-5:15pm

9-13 year olds         5:15-6:00pm

JUNIOR COACHES

I am looking for 12 & up swimmers to be Jr Coaches.  It is a great way to connect with the younger swimmers on the team and learn important job skills for the future.  We will have a mandatory training on Sunday June 9.  Job duties include helping younger swimmers at practices and at meets.  They are also our Spirit Team, helping to make team posters as well as with parties and spirit events.  Jr Coaches will be able to choose what practices they help at based on their availability.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

The District is hiring lifeguards and swim instructors for the summer.  All applicants need to have American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.  Classes are starting soon!  Check the website for classes and application information.
