NOTE FROM COACH TALLI

Hello Dolfin Families!

With the end of school and crazy weather, our practices were wild last week! When we move to the Ed Center pool it takes a little time for the younger swimmers to adjust because it is harder for them to hear the coaches because of the gutter system. It sounds like we are yelling at them but we need to be loud for them to hear us. The only time you will really hear us yell is if something is unsafe that could lead to an injury. We also yell kids names while they are swimming to make stroke corrections, which we do often, or get them on the right side of the lane to avoid collisions. I am looking forward to summer practices and nicer weather!

Dives
The other difficulty for swimmers at the Ed Center pool is diving. We worked a lot on diving at the park pool and the younger swimmers were doing great. This pool is completely different and it is normal for them to take a step backward. I am very aware that we need to continue working on diving but we need warm weather to do that. I want everyone diving, so we will be working on this a lot. Diving as well as learning new strokes is different for each swimmer so please be patient with their progress and don't compare them to other swimmers or siblings.  It takes a lot of repetition to master new things. I am confident that our coaching staff is doing everything we can to help the swimmers make progress. Please leave the coaching to the coaches and you will find that it works out much better if you are their biggest cheer leader. They really just want your encouragement and your approval.

Safety on the Pool Deck

During practice the Lifeguards and Coaches are focusing on the swimmers in the pool but we are also responsible for the safety of anyone at the facility. It is very important that parents monitor their non swimmers while on the pool deck. Running on the pool deck and playing on the bleachers and tarp reels is not ok. The safest place for them to play is on the lawn but they still need to be monitored.

Time Trials

Please sign in for Time Trials! We are starting week 8 and we need times in our database. I would like all swimmers to swim all of the events that they are able to swim. We have been working on all 4 strokes including IM so unless you have a new swimmer that doesn't know how to do all 4 strokes you should sign up for everything. It is easier to drop an event at the meet rather than add an event. Please have your swimmers check in with the coaches when they arrive at the meet and let us know if you are leaving early. This is important for all meets. We have a coaches tent in front of the snack shack. All 8&U swimmers will have coaches at their blocks to start their races.

Meet Deadlines

It is very important that you read our weekly emails! They contain very important information about upcoming deadlines and events. Meet entry deadlines are firm. Once they close in Team Unify the coaches need to complete and approve all entries and relays, then Amy compiles the information to seed the meets or send to the other teams. I am often doing meet entries at midnight because that is the only free time I have and I can't contact everyone to make sure they meant to skip a meet. The summer is very fast paced so if you see a deadline take care of it right then.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

You know where to find me!
