NOTE FROM COACH TALLI

Hello Dolfin Families!

We made it through a very hot first day of summer practice! Please make sure your swimmers are drinking enough water throughout the day. A lot of swimmers had headaches at the pm practice because they were dehydrated before they got there. It takes time for the body to adjust to this crazy heat and dehydration sneaks up on all of us. It's a great idea for the swimmers to get in the habit of bringing a water bottle to keep at their lane during practice.

We had a great first home meet against Oakhurst on Saturday with a lot of popped times! I am very happy with the progress that they are making. It's important to note that when we are working on new skills, sometimes the times get slower until they master the change. Be patient with the process. Coaches will be giving out otter pops on Fridays for any popped times during that week. The file box will be rolled out onto the pool deck everyday during practice. Please help your swimmer get into the habit of checking their file. For home dual meets we give out ribbons to all swimmers 12&Under.

Away dual meets may have a different policy. Invitational meets generally give out overall awards for the whole event, not each heat and usually a participation award. It's important to watch for time improvements rather than what place they get. I love a good race and want them to learn to fight for a good finish but they really have no control over who they are swimming against so tracking individual progress through times is a better gauge of how they are doing.

Meet entry deadlines are very important!! All entries are completed and approved through me. I know it is crazy at the start of the season so we have been flexible but I don't have time to keep going back to make changes. If you barely miss a deadline please text me immediately. I see texts a lot sooner than emails and it may make the difference between getting the swimmer in and not. All invitational entry deadlines are firm and there is nothing I can do to help if a deadline is missed. I am on deck coaching from 7:30am- 12:30 and 4:30-6:30pm. I will not respond during those times nor can I talk to you during practice. Your swimmers deserve all of my attention. Please make my job easier by following directions in the emails and planning ahead. I hate for swimmers to miss out on an opportunity to swim.

I will be leaving after the swim meet on Saturday to go to my sons graduation at UCSB. He graduates on Sunday afternoon so I will not be back from Santa Barbara until Monday evening and will be missing all Monday practices. I'm sure all of my coaches will do a fabulous job covering for me.

Coach Jaime will be leaving to go back to her nursing school program after Battle. We have been very fortunate to have her coaching with us for the past 2 months! please make sure to thank her before she leaves. Coach Isabelle and Coach Mirelle will finally be done with school and will be on deck coaching an the next week.

There will be no Tuesday evening practice on Tuesday night since the coaches will be going with the team to the A's game. Friday practice will be a combined morning practice after team pictures. Watch for detailed Battle information.

Read all emails so you know about important information, deadlines and schedule changes each week.

See you on the pool deck!
