DOLFINS NEWS WEEK 6!!!!
Good Evening Dolfins!!!! We are embarking on week 6 and there is A LOT going on this week, so please make sure to read this email all the way to the end so you don’t miss out!
First, we are thrilled that all swim practices will move to our home pool effective tomorrow!!! Here are all of the details, including a map, in order to ensure we all have a smooth transition:
Pleasant Hill Dolfins Practice Check In at PHEC
As we move practices to the Education Center Pool on Monday, May 17, we wanted to provide information about how check-in and other procedures will change.
Parking
All Dolfins swimmers, parents and coaches should park in the main parking lot (between the track and campus) or the blacktop area by the tennis courts. Dolfins should NOT park in the Adult Ed Parking lot at the Ed Center. The gate on the Adult Ed side of the pool will be locked and you will not be able to enter the pool from the Adult Ed parking lot. We (and Adult Ed) appreciate your cooperation in leaving the Adult Ed Parking lot open for Adult Ed students.
Swimmers
Swimmers should arrive at the pool in suit, ready to swim. Please arrive no more than 5-10 minutes before practice. Swimmers who arrive more than 10 minutes before practice will not be admitted to the pool deck. Swimmers will enter the pool at the gate by the basketball courts. Once checked in, swimmers should go to the following staging areas and wait to be called to the pool by their coach:
· Mini’s should go to the shallow end of the pool, at the lawn
· 6 & unders should go to the deep end bleachers
· 7/8s should go to the picnic table
· 9/10s should go to the picnic table
· 11/12s should go to the deep end bleachers
· 13+ should go to the water fountain
Please see the map below for more information.
Face masks continue to be required. The CDC’s new guidance says fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks indoors or outdoors, but the State of California has not yet updated its masking rules at this time. Until the State of California and the County of Contra Costa update their masking rules the District cannot waive masking requirements. In addition, CalOSHA is responsible for regulations in workplaces and at this time they have not updated their mask requirements. Until those agencies make changes, everyone is required to wear a mask while working in proximity to others or inside an office unless they are by themselves. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parents
Parents may watch all practices from the bleachers along the north end of the pool. Enter the pool at the gate nearest the bathrooms. Please stay away from the edge of the pool. In addition, please note the following mandatory COVID protocols:
-Mask required for everyone, except while in the water.
-Social Distance from non-household members.
-Stay home if sick.
-Wash your hands often.
Exit the facility at the gate by the tennis courts.
Remember, filming of any kind is not allowed during practices. Practice is a time for kids to learn, not to perform, and coaches need the swimmer’s complete attention. You are welcome to take photos and videos at meets as long as they are not taken from behind the blocks.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms at the Education Center Pool are immediately adjacent to the pool. Bathrooms should be use in the event of an emergency only. Please follow all MDUSD rules/signs for bathroom use. Please, NO changing in the bathrooms. All 10 & under swimmers must be escorted by a parent when using the bathroom.
For those who missed the suit order, the online store is now open. The sizing kit will be available for try-ons at Time Trials on Sunday, May 23. The online store will close at midnight on 5/26. This is a strict deadline and there are absolutely no late orders. If you tried on suits last time, but didn't order, please go in now so you don't miss the deadline! Pleasant Hill Dolfins
UPDATE FROM OUR VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Hello Dolfin families,
First, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who signed up and attended our set up day work party. It was early and cold but everyone was ready to work hard and have a little fun. It takes a very big village of volunteers to run a swim team and we cannot make this season happen for your kiddos without your help!
Next, with Time Trials happening next Sunday, the 23rd, we will be opening up the sign up for work shifts on Tuesday, May 18th at 8am and the sign up will close at midnight on May 20th. Time Trials is considered an invitational meet so please remember if your swimmers are participating you will need to sign up for a shift.
If you're not sure how to sign up for a shift please email me at [email protected] and I will explain the process.
Finally, sign ups for all the season's regular shifts (not including invitationals and Battle of the Ages) will open just after the conclusion of the new parent meeting on Thursday, May 20th at 9pm.
We are looking for a few volunteers interested in learning Stroke and Turn! Our amazing head Stroke and Turn Ed Ostrowski will be present at Time Trials to train but will be taking this season off. They are big shoes to fill but we really need to build his team! Also, please reach out by responding to this email if you think you may be interested in either Starter/Referee or Desk Operations. All of these volunteer positions are season long commitments and provide you with front row views to all of the races!!!

NOTE FROM COACH TALLI
Hello Dolfin Families!
Welcome to week 6! This week we will continue to work on all 4 strokes as well as Starts & Turns. We are working hard with all of the swimmers and seeing so much progress! We are very happy to be moving all practices to the Ed Center Pool! The pool is very different than the Park Pool. We will now all be together in one pool with 10 lanes and the lanes are wider giving us more room. The pool has an overflow gutter system that helps keep the water flat. It does make it a lot more difficult for the swimmers to hear the coaches so if it sounds like we are yelling at them its just so they can hear us. The good news is now that we are on a bigger pool deck, we have a section of bleachers for parents to come in and watch practices. We are happy to have you watch practices but it is important that the coaches have complete control of the swimmers. Please don't try to communicate with your swimmers or take any photos or videos during practices.
Please remember to sign your swimmers in or out for Time Trials by going to the events tab on our website, click on edit commitment next to the Time Trials event. I would like all swimmers to sign in for every event unless you won't be there. After checking all events, remember to click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. I sometimes make adjustments to entries after the deadline so text me if you have any questions. This year we have had quite a few meet changes due to COVID. Some teams are canceling their Invitational meets because they have small facilities and don't feel like they can host a large number of teams. We are filling in those spots with new Dual meets. We are fortunate to have a large facility allowing us more flexibility. Our pool is considered to be a FAST pool so everyone likes to come swim at our pool.
For Time Trials, the pool deck will open at 8am. Swimmers can pick up team suits that were previously ordered and sample suits will be available to try on if you still need to place an order. We will be giving all swimmers a maroon PHD cap and would like them to wear them for the meets. For now we will not allow families to set up on the pool deck. The snack shack will be open with a small selection of items and the meet should be over by 1pm. Please remember to bring slip on shoes for all swimmers since they will be walking outside the pool deck. For now everyone still needs to wear masks. Parents will escort younger swimmers to the blocks for their races then bring their masks to them at the other end of the pool. We are trying to do our best to make this meet as normal as possible while still complying with all regulations.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on our Parent Zoom meeting on Thursday night. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have Fun, Swim Fast!
