Highland Shores Hurricanes Swim Team - Volunteer Position Descriptions

ALL Hurricanes families must volunteer for 3 half meets.

We have many different ways you can fulfill your volunteer responsibility.  If you have a special circumstance, we can help you choose an opportunity that meets your needs.

Boys and Girls Lead

Volunteer will check in all swimmers in the chosen age group.

Write swimmers events/heats/lane on the inner part of their arm starting from the wrist out (ex. (#32 2 6 bck)  that means event #32, heat 2 on lane 6 - backstroke). You will write 1 line per event - there is a max of 4 events.

Supervise age group during meet, organizing swimmers for events, and escorting swimmers to ready bench before each event.

You will get a clip board with all the information you need.

Ready Bench:

Volunteer will work with host team to organize the swimmers so they are in the correct lanes at the proper time for their event/heat. You may have to walk swimmers to their lanes from the bench. The benches have numbers that refer to the lanes, each bench corresponds to a heat and you help move the swimmers towards the pool.

Ready Bench will also assure that all Hurricanes swimmers are present and ready to swim. Please look for the older swimmers who don't need to sit at the ready bench and send them to the correct place.

You will get a clip board with all the information you need.

Timer:

Volunteer will stand at a lane of the pool and use a stop watch to time the swimmers and record the swimmer's times on the provided time sheet.

Ribbon Writer:

Volunteer will pick up all documents and materials from our Coaches on Tuesday after the meet and return them ready to the coaches.

The job is performed at home: You will adhere preprinted labels to appropriate color ribbons, file ribbons in accordian folder, and return to the file to coaches by Wednesday during practice times.

Runner:

Volunteer will periodically pick up timer sheets from timers from each lane and bring them to the score table, distribute "Heat Winner" ribbons to swimmers, and use the flip chart to inform everyone of event number.

This position is only needed at our home meets.

Race Results:

Volunteer will work with Meet Manager reading the times from Time Sheets to be input in the computer.

Stroke Judge Official: This position MUST be approved by Coach Nick

Our swim team is run completely by volunteers. Your contribution to our team is what makes us successful!

Every family MUST volunteer for at least 2 shifts (about 2.5hrs each) in order for your child to compete on the swim team. Volunteers are a necessity for our meets to fun efficiently and smoothly.

You can choose a job and stay there during the whole meet and that will cover your requirement. In the job sign up you will have to choose the 2 shifts.

When everyone helps out, we are all able to enjoy a smooth and fun swim meet event.

We MUST have between 25 and 30 volunteers per meet in order to participate, PLEASE help!

If you are going to be at the pool with your children, please consider volunteering more than twice, it is a lot of fun and it makes our team able to keep existing. You can sign up your older teenagers, grandma, etc.

All job sign ups are posted in the Team Calendar for you to choose a date and time to volunteer for the season.

If you need to change your volunteer date/time, after you sign up, you are responsible for finding a replacement.

If for any reason you can fulfill your 2 shifts requirement or have any questions or comments concerning your volunteer shifts please contact Katie Rudolph, Volunteer Coordinator via SportsYou App or via email: [email protected].
