Coach in Training (CIT) Job Description 

The Lake Linganore Dolphins (LLD) is a community summer swim team of approximately 180 swimmers. The team ranges in ages 5-18 and abilities from novice through year-round club swimmers. The LLD competes in the Frederick Summer Swim League (FSSL). We have access to a 25-yard, eight-lane training pool located in Oakdale Village at Town Center. We are seeking fun, sociable, high-energy CITs to assist our coaching staff (head coach and assistant coaches) for the upcoming FSSL summer season (May-July). 

Team Philosophy: 

The LLD supports swimming as an outstanding summer activity that promotes fitness and teaches athletes to strive for physical performance beyond what would be possible in other sports. Swimming is an exciting individual and team sport. In addition to strengthening our swimmers' technique and competitive skills, the team gives both members and their children the opportunity to make friends and connect with other Lake Linganore families. 

Job Responsibilities: 

FSSL Summer Season: May-July, 10 hrs/week 

1. Assist the coaching staff for approximately 2.5 hours per day of on-deck coaching, Monday through Friday, that prepares swimmers for upcoming swim meets using proper stroke mechanics, dive and flip turn techniques, and endurance building 

2. Assist the coaching staff in additional on-deck responsibilities such as set-up and clean-up 

3. Participate in teaching and training sessions with the coaching staff where appropriate 

4. Provide a positive, encouraging, and challenging atmosphere in which all swimmers, regardless of ability, may improve their skills 

5. Treat all swimmers with equal care and concern, regardless of ability 6. Attend all scheduled swim meets, meetings, and team functions as required 7. Communicate questions and concerns to the coaching staff in a timely manner

Qualifications and Experience: 

Ï Swimmer entering Grades 9-12 in the fall 

Ï Two or more years of swimming experience with the Lake Linganore Dolphins Ï One or more years of leadership or volunteer experience 

Preferred Job Skills: 

Ï Demonstrated enthusiasm and highly motivated team player 

Ï Demonstrated knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of swimming (including mastery of all four strokes, starts, and finishes) 

Volunteer Hours: 

All CIT volunteer hours may be able to be submitted for FCPS Student Service Learning.
