John has been playing and teaching tennis for nearly 40 years. He is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), a certified Director of Tennis (DRHC) and also a certified USPTA 10U youth tennis coach. After graduating from Southgate Anderson High School, John attended Henry Ford Community College where he was their #1 Singles player and All-Conference. He also attended Wayne State University. John began coaching varsity tennis in the 1980s at Lincoln Park High School and went on to coach at Allen Park High School for both junior varsity and varsity. He also coached Southgate Anderson High School varsity tennis for 4 years when they were the region champions. Currently, John's high school coaching is at Woodhaven High School where he coaches both boys and girls varsity tennis. He has also had much experience directing tennis as well. He was the former Tennis Director in both Southgate and Novi. He is currently the current Tennis Program Director for Grosse Ile Recreation and Woodhaven Recreation. John was the Tennis Professional at Dearborn Racquet Club and Top Spin Tennis. John's accolades include Junior USTA Southeast Michigan Ranked Player and he has a 5.0 USTA player rating. He also enjoys Pickleball and received his Level 1 on court teaching certification in 2020. John’s current racquet is the Wilson Clash 100, but his favorite is the Dunlop 200G. He also enjoys watching tennis, especially his favorites which are John McEnroe "Johnny Mac" and Steffi Graf. His favorite shots are the serve and volley. He is enjoying being able to bring his lifelong love of the sport back to Detroit Golf Club again this season!

Noelle Hillert has played tennis since her freshman year of high school. She played doubles and singles at Stevenson High School in Livonia. Her senior year, she played #1 singles. Currently, Noelle plays for many USTA leagues ranked at a 4.0. She has also played for the Oakland University Tennis Club for 4 years now. She has been the Treasurer, Vice President and continuing President throughout her time on the team. Noelle attends Oakland University in their Business program with a MIS major and a French minor. This is Noelle’s 5th summer coaching tennis at Detroit Golf Club, she adores this job and is thrilled to continue teaching tennis!
