SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

But first ... WHO are the Rio Rapids? The Rio Rapids swim team is a recreational team from April to August 3 and a competitive USA Swimming-certified team that competes in the fall. The Rapids run out of the Rio del Oro Sports Club. The Rapids have approximately 400 swimmers each year.  The team competes in the Nor-Cal Swim League and is one of its founding members. The Nor-Cal Swim League has 26 teams that compete against each other in 4 different conferences. The Rio del Oro Rapids are excited to compete in the Gold Rush Conference, which also includes the Del Norte Dolphins, Gold River Stingrays, and Laguna Creek Gators. The Rapids' competitive team will compete across the West Coast through January 31. Our most dedicated swimmers progress through the recreation program to the competitive program and are fully prepared for and supported through high school swim programs.

WHY are the Rio Rapids? Kids need to move to be healthy. We all do. Swimming is an excellent way for children of all abilities to stay active and learn valuable skills. Children can typically start taking formal swim lessons around age 4; however, they can still benefit from being in the water with adult supervision before then. Kids benefit from the swim team by learning how much control they have over their bodies, by learning how hard work and practice manifest themselves, and by building relationships.  If kids are focused on what their bodies can do rather than what they look like, that has lifelong benefits.

BENEFITS OF SWIMMING

1. Can be either an individual or a team sport

2. Something that children can continue to do for the rest of their lives

3. Very few injuries are sustained from swimming when compared to other youth sports

4. Provides a fun and challenging way to help children stay fit

5. Teaches essential safety skills to prevent drowning, which is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death among youth

6. Provides cardiovascular activity that promotes heart and lung health

7. Improves stamina, flexibility, strength, balance, and posture

8. Helps prevent childhood obesity, which is an increasing health problem, and that in turn can help prevent juvenile diabetes

9. It is a mental exercise that can help improve emotional health and well-being

10. It is easier for children with disabilities or medical conditions that might prevent them from participating in other youth sports

OBJECTIVES

Sustainability. Swim programs need community support to sustain themselves. Without sponsorships, the team is not sustainable and we cannot count on the high quality programs and opportunities that the Rio Rapids family can provide.  Each donation is a commitment from the community that we care about healthy opportunities for all of our children.

Scholarships. The Rapids offer scholarships to kids who can’t afford swim team that include the club membership, swim team dues, registration fees, swimsuit and cap.

Clinic. The Rapids would like to bring in an Olympic or national swimmer to run a clinic for our kids. These clinics are fun! And pricey. Your sponsorship could help us recruit an athlete to motivate and excite our kids.

Equipment.  The Rapids equipment is old and, in many cases, falling apart.  We need to invest in new kickboards, flippers, and supplies.  Long term, we need to replace the blocks in our competition pool.
