Austin Martinson, Head Coach After "retiring" as the Bucs Co-Head Coach in 2022, hanging up his own Brookdale Bucs swim cap in 2020 after 12 seasons, and leaving a trail of 12 Brookdale Bucs team records, Austin returns for the 2024 season as Head Coach and starts his seventh season of coaching for our team! Austin is a 2020 graduate of Metea Valley High School and is currently in his senior year at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI. Austin swam competitively with the Brookdale Bucs for 12 seasons, 12 years with Maverick Swim Club, four years at Metea Valley High School where he was a two-time IHSA Boys High School State qualifier, and is currently in his fourth season on the Calvin University Swim Team. During his time as a Brookdale Bucs swimmer, he was awarded the Jenni & Alli Award in 2012 and Buc of a Lifetime Award in 2020. This spring, Austin will earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education - Social Studies and Math. He would love to teach middle school math or high school government this fall! In his free time, he loves to play games with friends (Euchre is always his go-to game), listen to new music, and spend time with family. Austin shares, "I cannot adequately describe how excited I am to return to the Bucs as the head coach this summer! This team is the reason for my love of swimming and why I have continued to swim to this day. I hope to pass on my love for the sport to all the swimmers by not only helping them improve, but also making sure they have a blast along the way." |
