Co-Head Coach: Sydney VanCoppenolle.
Sydney joined the SURF coaching staff in 2024. Sydney swam competitively for 15 years, both as a USA swimmer for Mid Michigan Aquatics (MMA), as well as at the collegiate level for Saginaw Valley State University. Over the last decade, she has taught swim lessons; worked as a lifeguard; and coached for MMA, Twin Lakes Country Club, and OLY. When she's not by the pool, Sydney works as a fifth grade teacher during the school year for Rochester Community Schools.
Co-Head Coach: Jerome Wiater.
Jerome joined the SURF coaching staff in 2025. Jerome is the head swim coach at Bloomfield Hills High School, as well as an assistant swim coach with the Birmingham Blue Dolphins. A recent graduate from Colby College, where he was a member of the Varisty Swim Team, Jerome is also a Bloomfiled Hills native, having attended Cranbrook Kingswood School. When he's not by the pool, Jerome works as a Junior Developer and Operations Assitant for The Business Packager.
Lead Assistant Coach: Erin Marshall
Erin joined the SURF coaching staff in 2022. Prior to that, she swam for SURF for a total of 15 years! Erin currently attends Grand Valley State University, where she is studying elementary education. She is also a substitute teacher at Bloomfield Hills Schools.
Assistant Coach: Ella Harris
Ella joined the SURF coaching staff in 2023. Prior to that, she swam for SURF a total of 10 years! Ella currently attends Hope College, where she is pursuing a Bachelors in K-12 Music Education. Ella is extremely passionate about the SURF swim team, and she is excited to share her enthusiam and long-standing commitment to this team with the next generation of swimmers.
Assistant Coach: Joe Wiater
Joe joined the SURF coaching staff in 2025. He has has a thirteen-year history of swimming, including with Cranbrook, Forest Lake, and Birmingham Blue Dophins. Joe will be attending Michigan State Univeristy in Fall 2025.
